Outline:
New Curriculum Framework for Nigerian Schools
The Federal Government has officially released the subject offerings for primary, junior, and senior secondary education in Nigeria. This move aims to address the widespread circulation of fake lists online and ensure that students receive accurate and up-to-date educational information. The Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) emphasized that these reforms are part of broader national education sector initiatives designed to ease curriculum overload and enhance learning outcomes across the country.
The new curriculum framework is structured to balance academic knowledge with practical skills, preparing pupils for both higher education and the demands of modern society. Professor Salisu Shehu, the executive secretary of NERDC, confirmed that the updated curriculum will take effect at the start of each three-year education cycle, beginning with Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1, and SS 1. To support this transition, nationwide sensitization and teacher training programs will commence immediately.
