Boryeong’s Yesan Campus: A Model of Smart Manufacturing Innovation
Boryeong Co., Ltd. has made a significant mark in the field of manufacturing innovation by receiving the Presidential Commendation in the Manufacturing Innovation category at the ‘2025 SME Technology and Management Innovation Competition.’ This prestigious award was presented at the Jeju International Convention Center on the 4th, highlighting the company’s outstanding contributions to the industry.
The competition, organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, aims to showcase the achievements of innovative small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Korea and provide them with opportunities to expand their presence on the global stage. Boryeong was recognized for its efforts in enhancing manufacturing quality and strengthening global competitiveness through the construction of the Yesan Campus as a smart factory.
Since 2019, Boryeong has actively participated in government-led initiatives to build and advance smart factories. The company has implemented digital transformation across all aspects of its operations, including production, quality control, and logistics. By integrating automatic control systems and interface systems into major manufacturing facilities, Boryeong has been able to collect and analyze process data in real time, significantly improving process stability.
One of the key achievements of this initiative is the reduction of manufacturing lead time from 15 days to 10.5 days. This improvement was achieved by eliminating unnecessary waiting times and inefficiencies in the production process.
In addition to these advancements, Boryeong introduced an Electronic Document Management System (EDMS). This system enables the electronic management of all processes related to GMP documents, from generation to disposal. The implementation of EDMS has enhanced historical tracking and access control of documents, contributing to improved manufacturing competitiveness by ensuring data integrity and reliable quality control.
These innovations have positioned Boryeong as a leader in the industry. In December 2024, the company signed a CDMO contract for an anticancer drug with the Taiwanese pharmaceutical company Lotus. Earlier, in July, it also secured a CDMO contract with the global pharmaceutical company Cheflapham for the schizophrenia drug Zaprexa. These contracts demonstrate Boryeong’s world-class manufacturing capabilities.
A Boryeong official stated, “We plan to continue upgrading our smart factories by introducing a Quality Management System (QMS).” The company aims to apply QMS to all production lines at the Yesan Campus, which will enhance production efficiency and customer reliability.
Future Goals and Strategic Initiatives
Looking ahead, Boryeong is focused on further optimizing its operations through advanced technologies and strategic partnerships. The company is committed to maintaining its position as a leader in smart manufacturing and continues to explore new ways to improve its processes and services.
By leveraging digital tools and fostering collaboration with global partners, Boryeong is well-positioned to meet the evolving demands of the pharmaceutical industry. Its ongoing investments in research, development, and innovation are expected to drive long-term growth and sustainability.
As the company moves forward, it remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Through continuous improvement and a forward-thinking approach, Boryeong is setting a benchmark for excellence in the manufacturing sector.
