A Dream Come True for Nepal Sherpas in Korea

Nepal’s Sherpa Tamang and Lai recently experienced a life-changing journey to South Korea, calling it “like a dream.” Their excitement was palpable as they shared their emotions during a special episode of the MBC Everyone show “Welcome. It’s your first time in Korea, right?” which featured their unique adventure.

The show released a teaser video that gave a glimpse into their trip, highlighting how this was Tamang’s first time traveling overseas. He expressed his astonishment, saying, “It’s amazing. I can’t believe I can travel to such a big country.” Lai, too, was overwhelmed by the experience, stating, “It’s like a dream,” as he explored places that were completely new to him.

Upon arriving in Korea, Tamang and Lai were seen with wide smiles, enjoying every moment of their visit. They marveled at the sights they had only seen in pictures before, with Tamang exclaiming, “It’s what I saw in the book.” The two were captivated by the beauty and culture of the country, which left them in awe.

Their experiences in Korea included a variety of activities, such as riding a boat on the beach and visiting an amusement park while dressed in Korean school uniforms. Tamang was moved by the experience, asking, “Is this heaven?” Meanwhile, Lai reflected on the significance of the trip, saying, “It’s like a dream.”

This unforgettable journey was made possible through the invitation from the production team of “Welcome.” Tamang and Lai had previously gained attention for their participation in MBC’s “Taegye Ilju 4,” where they accompanied Gian84 on a trek through the Nepalese Himalayas. After the show aired in May, fans flooded the show’s bulletin board with requests to invite the two to Korea, leading to the production team’s decision to bring them over.

The production team shared their joy, stating, “Tamang and Lai had such a happy and enjoyable time in Korea that they will never forget. The production team also made good memories with their friends.” This sentiment was echoed by the two travelers, who described their time in Korea as one of the most cherished experiences of their lives.

It was also revealed that Tamang and Lai met Gian84 after the filming ended. Recently, Gian84 shared a photo on social media showing the three of them together, captioning it, “Tamang, Lai Happy.”

The full travelogue featuring Tamang and Lai’s adventures in Korea is scheduled to air on September 25th at 8:30 p.m. on MBC Everyone’s “Welcome. It’s your first time in Korea, right?”
