Is it wrong for me not to give any of my inheritance to my sister?
My father (55) recently died due to an illness.
Prior to his death, he made a significant amount of money through cryptocurrency and other ventures.
He arrived very early and accumulated significant wealth.
We were poor until I was around 10 years old, when he began earning a significant amount of money.
Wow…
Prior to his death, he revised his will, allocating 20% to my mother and 80% to me.
He left my sister (24 years old) nothing.
He had initially planned to give her 40%, me 40%, and my mother 20%, but he excluded his sister because, over the years, she has been scammed out of money by several men in her life.
It seems she could benefit from some financial education.
When my sibling and I reached the age of 21, my father presented us with $1 million for our 21st birthdays.
My sibling was defrauded of approximately $600,000 from this amount by three different boyfriends over the past three years.
Due to this, my father stated that she wouldn’t receive anything, and we all agreed that it was reasonable.
But we didn’t expect him to leave her with absolutely nothing.
My sister still has more than $150k from her birthday.
His father was explicit about this…
My father asked me before he died to buy my sister whatever she desired, but to not give her any money.
That’s my plan. My mother also supports this decision. However, my aunts and grandmother believe we should present her with a gift.
My sibling and I were very close, and she recently asked me for some cash. I let her know that whatever she needs, I would purchase for her, but I’m not providing her with any money whatsoever.
She is angry with me and claims I’m her little brother, not her father, and that I’m being self-centered. She hasn’t spoken to me since.
AITA?”
