In terms of ease of use, charges, investment choices, and input from actual investors, we have established a ranking of thetop free investment apps that allow you to invest without charges. Whether you’re just starting with $20 or developing a long-term investment strategy, these are the apps worth considering in 2026.
Here are the top investment applications that allow you to invest without charge (yes, completely free). You may also want to exploreour list of the top brokers for investing.
Top Commission-Free Investing Apps
1. Fidelity
Best For: Full-Service Investing With Zero Trading Fees
Fidelityis one of our top applications that enables you to invest without cost. This often astonishes many individuals, as most people don’t typically link Fidelity with the term “free”. However,Fidelity provides various no-commission ETFsthis would enable most investors to create a well-rounded investment portfolio. additionally, they now provide $0 commission for stock, option, and ETF transactions!
They also provide fractional share investing, allowing you to invest in dollar amounts rather than whole shares. This is particularly beneficial for individuals beginning with small sums of money.
Fidelity IRAsalso have no minimum balance required to open an account, and no fees for maintaining the account. This means you can deposit as little as $5 and start investing without any cost. This offers a much more favorable option compared to companies likeStash Invest.
Additionally, Fidelity has recently revealed that it now offers two funds with a 0.00% expense ratio – that’s truly free. This means you can invest without paying commissions, and these funds also do not impose any management fees. Real free investing.
However, to become a leading application, it must offer an exceptional app, and Fidelity does. Their application is the most streamlined and user-friendly among all the investment apps we have evaluated. They provide numerous features, yet everything functions seamlessly together.
Additionally, you enjoy the advantage of accessing a full-service investment broker if you require more than just free services. Explore Fidelity’s app andopen an account here.

2. Robinhood
Best For:100% Free Stock Transactions & Restricted Cryptocurrency
Robinhoodis an application that enables you to buy and sell stocks without any cost. Users have the ability to purchase or dispose of stocks at the current market rate. The app also supports placing limit orders and stop-loss orders. For those who are not frequent traders, this level of features is sufficient. Additionally, the app offers a simple user interface along with fundamental research tools.
Serious investors should combine Robinhood with one or more free research resources. This can assist them in forming a more structured method of investing. That being said, you can’t surpassRobinhood’s free tradesbut its flaws here make it third.
They also provide choices such as fractional shares and cryptocurrency investments, although these are also restricted.
The disadvantages are quite few, but one of the most significant is that the platform has grown unstable in recent months, experiencing major outages that affect investors.

If you’re interested in understanding how Robinhood generates revenue, it’s through Robinhood Gold. Robinhood Gold is a type of margin account that enables you to trade after regular market hours. Trading on margin involves borrowing money to increase your potential gains. However, this also increases your potential losses. As a result (due to the effects of compounding), using margin typically reduces your initial investment over time.

3. Schwab
Best For: Investing and Banking Combined
Schwabis among the top brokers, and it has made substantial progress in recent years, particularly with the purchase of TD Ameritrade. Additionally, its trading platform thinkorswim is highly regarded by traders.
Where Charles Schwab truly excels is its capacity to offer commission-free trading alongside a strong banking service. The Schwab checking account is frequently recognized as a top choice, and you can observe in the app how they integrate investing and banking smoothly.
Schwab offers all possible account types, and they maintain a nationwide network of offices in case you ever require face-to-face assistance. However, their investment app is also very highly rated.

4. E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley
E*TRADEalso provides a wide variety ofcommission free ETFs. We are truly big fans ofE*TRADE for our individual 401k accountbut they don’t rank in the top 5 when it comes to investment applications and free investment options.
They have recently introduced zero-cost stock, ETF, and options trading, but we’ll find out how they measure up against others on this list.
Although they provide IRAs without minimum requirements and do not impose any transaction charges, we found their app less intuitive compared to others. Much like their website, it is somewhat more challenging to navigate. Nevertheless, we still greatly appreciateE*TRADEand they are certainly a second-place finisher.

Runners Up
Many applications and utilities nearly reach the Top 5. With such strong competition, it’s challenging to stand out.
Vanguard
Vanguardis consistently recognized as the low-cost investment service provider. They were among the first mutual fund and ETF companies to reduce expenses, and they consistently promote a low-fee index fund strategy for investing.
At Vanguard, there are no commissions charged when purchasing or selling Vanguard ETFs. Additionally, there are no account service fees if you opt to receive your account documents electronically, or if you are a Voyager, Voyager Select, Flagship, or Flagship Select Services client.
Additionally, Vanguard recently stated that they will no longer impose a commission on a significant number of rival funds and ETFs!
Vanguard does not require a minimum account balance, and there is no minimum investment amount for mutual funds, although for stocks and ETFs, the cost is equivalent to one share.
The factor limiting Vanguard is that their app is somewhat more cumbersome compared to other applications. It has a slightly “old school” feel and appears to be designed for basic functions only.
However, it’s free, so perhaps only the essentials are required?
Vanguard Personal Advisor
If you need expert assistance with your investments and financial planning, Vanguard provides Personal Advisor to help you develop, implement, and maintain your financial strategy. These are fiduciary advisors who will assist you in creating a plan tailored to your objectives (it’s not automated). The fee is 0.30% of assets under management, one of the lowest rates available.

You can access stock, options, and limited cryptocurrency trading through the Webull platform. They also provide favorable margin rates. However, one limitation is that they do not currently support mutual funds, bonds, OTC Bulletin Board, or Pink Sheets stocks. Stash is an investment application that isn’t free, yet simplifies the process of investing. It has created a user-friendly platform that makes investing straightforward, and it does not impose any commission fees for investments. Stash was previously recognized for its $5 investment options, but it has now transitioned to no minimum requirements and offers the ability to invest in fractional shares.

Who Is This For?
Investment applications offer an excellent method to begin investing, providing the ease of managing all activities through your smartphone. It was once the sole means of doing so.put money into the stock marketwas to contact a stockbroker and execute a trade. This process was slow, expensive (with high fees for each transaction), and required meeting specific minimums.
When I began investing, the process had transitioned to online platforms. However, it was still not free of commissions (I recall paying $9.99 for each trade), and there was no option to conduct transactions via mobile devices.
Move ahead to the present day, and there are multiple investing platforms designed primarily for mobile use (such as Robinhood, Webull, and Public). These businesses operate mainly through apps, which has made investing more accessible to many younger individuals.
If you’re interested in beginning to invest and prefer to do so using your phone, this list is tailored for you.
Why Should You Have Confidence in Us?
This list comes from a survey conducted among 600 Americans who described themselves as investors or individuals interested in investing. The survey took place on January 2, 2026.
Additionally, I have been discussing investing and evaluating various investment platforms since 2009. I haveexamined and evaluated nearly all the primary investment platforms and applications on the market, and the analysis is derived from that experience.
We are confident that our list correctly represents the top free investment applications available for users.
