I cover numerous kitchen transformations on Apartment Therapy, and I have a special fondness for those that reuse old items and give them a fresh start. I strongly support any efforts that keep old countertops and cabinets out of landfills, and I’m truly amazed by the ingenuity required to handle particularly bold countertops, cabinets, and tiles I’ve come across.


Why I Am Fond of This Kitchen Transformation
I am fond of this earlier kitchen renovation by interior designer Andrea Granger (@hunt.and.scavenge) because she maintains the current countertops, which werea lotFirst off, the swirling brown counters had a pattern that resembled tiger stripes, and when paired with the dark brown cabinets and tan floor tiles, they created a dark atmosphere in the kitchen – or, as Andrea described it, “Brown, brown, BROWN!”
However, Andrea mentions, “retaining the ‘good parts’ was crucial,” in this kitchen renovation, and the countertops were of premium quality. With a fresh paint shade, a standout hood, the removal of a “constricting” soffit, a new backsplash, and wooden open shelves replacing the previous upper cabinets, the kitchen now appears completely transformed, and the countertops seem perfectly placed.
