A New Era for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Starting this spring, Disneyland’s "Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge" is undergoing a major transformation that has been highly anticipated by fans since its debut at the Anaheim theme park in 2019. This overhaul brings back elements from the original trilogy of the Star Wars franchise, marking a shift from the previous focus on the sequel trilogy.

Originally set in the era of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the land was centered around the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance on the planet Batuu. However, Disney is now reimagining the setting to take place during the time of "Return of the Jedi" and the Disney+ series "The Mandalorian." This change allows for the inclusion of classic characters from the original trilogy as well as the iconic duo of Mando and Grogu, who are set to star in their own feature film this Memorial Day weekend.

Expanding the Story with New Characters

One of the most exciting additions is the new mission for the interactive ride "Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run," which will be based on "The Mandalorian." Fans can look forward to meeting Mando in person for meet and greets, alongside Ahsoka Tano, further enriching the experience.

In addition to these new characters, the original trilogy is also making a comeback. Chewbacca, who has been a staple at meet and greets near the Millennium Falcon since the opening of "Galaxy’s Edge," will soon be joined by Han Solo. Leia Organa will also make her appearance in the park, dressed in an outfit inspired by her look on Hoth from "The Empire Strikes Back." Darth Vader will be present, flanked by Imperial Stormtroopers, taking the place where Kylo Ren once stood.

Enhancing the Experience with Design Changes

Beyond the characters, the "Galaxy’s Edge" area is also getting a fresh look. Several stores will be rebranded and redesigned to fit the earlier timeframe, creating a more authentic atmosphere. John Williams’ iconic music from the original trilogy will now play throughout the area, enhancing the immersive experience for visitors.

Balancing Old and New

Despite these changes, the sequel trilogy is not being completely removed from "Galaxy’s Edge." The signature ride, "Rise of the Resistance," will remain unchanged. This attraction features all the major characters from "The Force Awakens" and allows guests to play the role of Resistance members captured by the First Order. Rey, the Jedi heroine from those films, has been a popular character for meet and greets and will still be available for photo opportunities near "Rise of the Resistance."

A New Chapter for Star Wars Fans

The updated "Galaxy’s Edge" will officially debut in Disneyland this April, offering fans a chance to explore a new chapter in the Star Wars saga. With a blend of classic and modern elements, this transformation promises to captivate both longtime enthusiasts and newcomers alike.
