A Historic Moment at the 2026 Golden Globes

At the 2026 Golden Globes, Teyana Taylor made history in more ways than one. Not only did she win the first award of the night, but she also became the first star to be censored during an acceptance speech. The singer-songwriter and actress, 35, took the stage to accept the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her role in One Battle After Another.

During her emotional speech, Taylor’s audio was temporarily cut when she used strong language. Her comment, which did not make it to the broadcast, was: "Oh my God, this s— is heavy." She was referring to the golden statuette she held as she delivered her heartfelt remarks.

Emotional Acceptance Speech

As Taylor took the stage, she began to cry, clearly overwhelmed by the moment. Her fellow nominees — Amy Madigan, Ariana Grande, Emily Blunt, Elle Fanning, and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas — could all be seen applauding for her throughout her speech.

"I almost didn’t even write a speech because I didn’t think I would get this," she said, voice breaking with emotion. "Oh my babies! My babies are upstairs watching, y’all better be off those damn phones and watching me right now."

Taylor went on to express her gratitude to God for "every lesson, every test, and every blessing," as well as to her family and the director, writer, and co-producer of One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson.

"To Paul ‘Let ‘Em Cook’ Thomas Anderson, thank you for your vision, your trust, and your brilliance. My gratitude is endless. I love you, we love you, and thank you so much for holding space for me and our entire cast."

Gratitude and Recognition

In addition to thanking Anderson, Taylor gave special shout-outs to her costars, including Leo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, Chase Infiniti, Regina Hall, and "every single person who has touched this project" along the way.

"None of this is taken lightly, and none of this is taken for granted," she said, before being censored as she continued, "Oh my God, this s— is heavy."

She concluded her speech with a powerful message to her audience:

"And last, but most importantly, to my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight, our softness is not a liability. Our depth is not too much. Our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter, and our dreams deserve space. Thank you so much, everybody. Thank you!"
