Teyana Taylor Balances Career and Education with Grace
Teyana Taylor, known for her role in the acclaimed series One Battle After Another, is no stranger to juggling multiple responsibilities. From attending high-profile events like the 2026 Golden Globes to managing her academic pursuits, she consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic.
At the 2026 Golden Globes, Teyana was hopeful about winning in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture category. However, her commitment to education didn’t take a backseat. She recently enrolled at the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts in July, a decision that has added another layer to her already busy life.
Despite her packed schedule, Teyana remains focused on her goals. During an exclusive interview on LIVE from E!: Golden Globes, she shared details about her academic deadlines. “My deadline is on Tuesday,” she said. “I gotta have my meals by Tuesday. I spoke to my chef yesterday, and he’s giving me an extension so I can turn my assignment in on Thursday. My school has been very, very supportive of me.”
Teyana emphasized that she usually completes her work early, but the recent events, including the 2026 Critics Choice Awards where she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, made it challenging to keep up with her studies.
“I was like, ‘Chef, it ain’t happening,’” she recalled. “This is when a double life is kicking in. I’m like, ‘I’m gonna need ’til Thursday.’ I’m a straight-A student, and I want to keep it that way. I don’t want to make any excuses.”
The 35-year-old, who shares children Junie, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with her ex-husband Iman Shumpert, isn’t considering taking a break from her studies despite her hectic award season. “I don’t want to do none of that,” she explained. “Just give me an extra two days. I get home on Monday and I might still have it in by Tuesday. It’s like to have myself that time, so I’m not panicking.”
Teyana’s dedication to learning extends beyond the classroom. Her role in the Paul Thomas Anderson-directed film felt like being in another classroom. “One thing about me is I am a student, baby,” she added. “I turn into SpongeBob SquarePants, because I’m just soaking it all up, especially as I get ready for my first feature film as a director—to be able to go to the school of Paul Thomas Anderson—he’s the cheat sheet. I literally get to go into my projects knowing exactly how it needs to be done.”
As Teyana continues to balance her career and education, she remains a source of inspiration for many. Her journey highlights the importance of perseverance and the value of continuous learning.
