A Night of Recognition and Celebration

Julia Roberts may have missed out on the award in her own category at the 2026 Golden Globes, but she still managed to steal the spotlight with a heartfelt moment that left the audience in awe. The iconic actress took the stage at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on Sunday, January 11, to present the award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. As she stepped onto the stage, the star-studded crowd rose to their feet, giving her a standing ovation.

"Thank you," Roberts said, playfully encouraging those who hadn’t stood up yet. "Yup. Everybody! Let’s go! In the back! Come on!" She even teased Emma Stone, asking, "She’s like what the hell is going on right now?" The audience laughed and cheered, clearly enjoying the lighthearted moment.

Roberts reflected on the warm reception, saying, "I’m gonna be impossible for at least a week. I appreciate that." She also expressed her gratitude for the evening, stating, "What a great night. What a beautiful night to be an artist." With a smile, she added, "This is 2026. We’re going straight to the top on this."

After the applause, Roberts presented the award to Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another. The film was recognized for its outstanding contribution to the musical or comedy genre.

A Heartfelt Tribute and a New Chapter

Moments later, Roberts’ longtime collaborator and friend George Clooney took the stage to present the final award of the evening — Best Motion Picture – Drama. While he received a polite ribbing from Don Cheadle about his lack of a standing ovation, the moment highlighted the camaraderie among the stars.

Roberts, 58, had been nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in After the Hunt, but ultimately lost the category to Jessie Buckley for her performance in Hamnet. During Buckley’s acceptance speech, she expressed her admiration for Roberts, saying, "Oh my God, the incredible women I am honored to stand beside in this category. I mean, Julia Roberts — you are like a hero to us all."

Roberts was accompanied by her husband, Danny Moder, for the event. While she walked the red carpet solo in a striking black dress with a red necklace, Moder was seen alongside her inside the venue, showing their enduring bond.

A Legacy of Excellence

Throughout her career, Roberts has earned three Golden Globe Awards. In 1990, she won Best Actress for Pretty Woman. She followed that with another win in 2000 for Erin Brockovich. In 1989, she received the Best Supporting Actress – Motion Picture honor for Steel Magnolias.

The 2026 Golden Globes were a celebration of talent, resilience, and artistry. From the heartfelt moments on stage to the glowing tributes from fellow actors, the evening was a testament to the power of storytelling and the impact of those who bring it to life. Whether through awards or applause, Julia Roberts proved once again why she remains one of Hollywood’s most beloved figures.
