Netflix has released a new romantic comedy titled We Meet on Vacation, which is now available for streaming. The film features a stellar cast, including Jameela Jamil and Emily Bader, who have received praise for their performances.

At the Los Angeles premiere of We Meet on Vacation, Jameela Jamil, 39, expressed her admiration for her co-star, Emily Bader, 29. She called Bader "the next big thing" and compared her to Jennifer Aniston, stating, “I think she’s what Jennifer Aniston was to my generation.” Jamil added, “I’m really rooting for her and I think she’s going to go on to do great things, and I’m excited for the whole world to see her now.”

The Role of Swapna

In the film, which is an adaptation of Emily Henry’s 2021 novel, Jamil plays Swapna, the editor of the fictional R+R magazine and the boss of Poppy, played by Bader. Swapna serves as Poppy’s mentor, helping her overcome a writing rut and reach her full potential. Jamil shared her thoughts on the character, saying, “I love the character I got to play. I think we all need a Swapna in our lives.”

Fun and Enjoyment on Set

Jamil described her experience working on the film as one of the most enjoyable times in her career. She said, “This film was some of the most fun I’ve ever had at my job.” She also praised the story and the chemistry between the actors, particularly Emily Blyth, who plays Tom. “I love everyone involved. I love the story,” she continued. “I think it’s what we need in the world right now, given how bleak everything is. Emily and Tom are the perfect lovers on-screen. I’m obsessed with them.”

The Return of the Rom-Com

Jameela Jamil also commented on the current state of romantic comedies. She noted that they have been lacking in recent years and that We Meet on Vacation is the “comeback of the good rom-com.” Jamil explained, “I feel as though a lot of rom-coms sometimes get dumbed down and that’s not what we grew up with. We grew up with Diane Keaton and with Rob Reiner.” She added, “Brett Haley [the film’s director] put as much [of] Rob Reiner’s spirit into this as possible. He took it really seriously… He’s just full of love… And I think it really resonated through the film.”
