Daniel Stern’s Controversial Encounter and Career Shift

Daniel Stern, best known for his role as Marv Murchins in the iconic "Home Alone" franchise, recently found himself in a legal situation that has sparked public interest. The 68-year-old actor was issued a citation for allegedly attempting to hire an escort during the holiday season on December 10 in Camarillo, California. According to TMZ, Stern was at a hotel in Camarillo when he was cited by the police.

Unlike typical cases where individuals are booked and required to take a mugshot, Stern did not face such procedures. Instead, he was simply given a ticket. The Daily Mail has reached out to Stern’s representatives for comment on this incident, but no official response has been released yet.

A Life Transformed

Stern’s career has taken a drastic turn since he left Hollywood behind. He now lives on a farm, growing tangerines and working as a cattle rancher. Additionally, he is involved in sculpting, showcasing his diverse talents beyond acting. This shift from the spotlight to a more rural lifestyle marks a significant change in his professional life.

In December, Stern shared details about his new life, emphasizing that he has moved away from the entertainment industry. His decision to step back from Hollywood has been a notable part of his recent narrative.

Health and Personal Struggles

Earlier in the year, Stern faced a medical emergency that led to his hospitalization. On October 7, he was rushed to the emergency room after experiencing a medical issue, according to TMZ. The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed they responded to a residence in Somis, California, for a medical emergency. Although the specifics of his condition remain unclear, Stern was assessed by firefighters and subsequently released. His representative confirmed that he is in good health.

Negotiating Pay in the ‘Home Alone’ Franchise

Stern’s journey in the film industry includes a notable pay dispute related to the "Home Alone" sequel. In his memoir "Home And Alone," he revealed that when the original 1990 movie became a box office hit, the studios approached him with an offer of $600,000 for the sequel. This amount was double his salary from the first movie, but significantly less than what his co-stars were receiving.

Stern recalled that Joe Pesci, who played his Wet Bandits sidekick Harry, was making around $2 to $3 million. He also noted that leading star Macaulay Culkin received a deal for $5 million plus 5 percent of the gross box office earnings. Determined to secure fair compensation, Stern negotiated for a higher amount, ultimately firing his agent when he felt the offer was inadequate.

A Prideful Decision

Stern explained that he wanted to be paid at least half of what his co-star was making. When the studio eventually offered $800,000, he decided not to accept it, as he learned that Pesci was earning between $2 million and $3 million. Reflecting on this decision, Stern called it a "prideful thing to do," though he acknowledged that it might have cost him financially.

Despite the challenges, Stern eventually agreed to the terms, stating that there are many things he gains from the movies besides money. His experience highlights the complexities of negotiations in the entertainment industry and the personal sacrifices actors often make.
