For those who think Joan Rivers was the ultimate fashion critic, it might be time to rethink. The world’s toughest fashion critics might actually be sitting on your couch — and they’re not afraid to speak their minds. This was the case for Yahoo, which turned to an unexpected group of red carpet correspondents during Sunday’s Golden Globes: their kids!
These young critics ranged in age from 4 to 15 years old. While most weren’t around for the actual award show or had watched any of the nominated projects beyond KPop Demon Hunters and Wicked: For Good, they were more than willing to stay up past their bedtime to give their unfiltered opinions on the red carpet looks. These were the critiques no stylist could have prepared for.

Teyana Taylor made a bold statement with her Schiaparelli dress at the event. The One Battle After Another actress wore a look that was business in the front but definitely a party in the back, where her sparkling, bow-topped thong was fully exposed. The outfit caused quite a reaction.
Della, who is only 4 years old, said, “Aww, that’s cute.” But Beau, 7, wasn’t as impressed. He called it “the worst one yet.” Meanwhile, Zoe, 13, who is too young to remember the Y2K whale tail trend, still recognized the style. She told her mom, “You know when people used to have thongs that would show? It looks like that.”

Selena Gomez’s feathery Chanel look also caught the attention of the young viewers. Allie, 13, described it as “giving pom-poms” and added, “I would not want to wear that.”

When it came to shiny outfits, the kids were all over it. Elle Fanning and Kate Hudson both received rave reviews for their dazzling looks. Zoe praised Fanning’s Gucci gown, saying, “Her dress looks like glittering flowers. Very beautiful.” Della, once again, gave a more sophisticated take, saying, “I really like that dress. I don’t want to buy it, I just want to look at it.”
Hudson’s gunmetal gray look was Zoe’s favorite of the night. She said, “I love the sparkle, the shine, the shimmer.” Perry, 4, also agreed, exclaiming, “Wow, so shiny!”

Green was the color of the night according to 4-year-old Della. She couldn’t help but compare the gowns worn by Love Island star Olandria Carthen and Hedda nominee Tessa Thompson to items in the pantry. Carthen’s Christian Siriano dress looked like “lettuce,” while Thompson’s custom Balenciaga gown reminded her of a “pickle.”

Teenagers proved to be especially harsh in their critiques. Sloane, 15, declared, “All the outfits look low-key boring.” However, she did appreciate Wednesday star Jenna Ortega’s fringed black Dilara Findikoglu number with cutouts on the sides, calling it her favorite of the night.
The kids were especially tough on men’s fashion. Sloane found Timothée Chalamet’s all-black ensemble “too basic.” As for Walton Goggins’s gold shirt and dramatic ribbon bow tie, 4-year-old Perry said, “Mommy, I don’t like that.” And Owen Cooper, who played a role in Adolescence, received feedback from 7-year-old Beau, who said, “He looks like a Ghostbuster.”
The children have spoken!
