Sophie Turner is getting ready to take on the role of Lara Croft, but the preparation for the character led to an unexpected revelation.
As mentioned in comments she shared on The Julia Cunningham Show, the 29-year-old actress discovered she has a long-term back issue during her training for the new Tomb Raider TV series. Sophie noted that the physical demands of preparing for the role have been extremely challenging.
We have been training for eight hours each day, five days a week, since February of last year,she mentioned during the interview.Yep, it’s been quite a lot.
After months of intense exercise, Sophie observed a persistent problem. She mentioned that she has“a perpetual back problem”It became evident during the training. Nevertheless, she mentioned that the experience provided her with valuable insights into her body and physical fitness.
She also acknowledged that she had limited experience with working out prior to securing the role.I also realized that building muscle is much easier if you’ve never exercised before, which was the case for me. she said. So, it has taken me many months to become in good physical condition.
Julia Cunningham noted that this could come as a surprise to fans, as Sophie is well recognized for her portrayal of Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones, a series full of combat and intense scenes. Sophie quickly explained her role on the show.
I was the one who got beaten up, not the one doing the beating, she said. So it’s really enjoyable to discover how to throw a punch instead of just enduring it!
The upcoming Tomb Raider series is being created by Amazon MGM, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge overseeing the initiative. The show draws from the original Tomb Raider video games, which debuted in 1996 and helped establish Lara Croft as one of the most recognizable figures in gaming history.
Amazon MGM recently unveiled a first glimpse of Sophie dressed as Lara Croft. Her attire features iconic elements from the original games, including red sunglasses, a teal tank top, short shorts, pistol holsters, and a leather backpack.
Plot information remains largely undisclosed, but a cast announcement released by Prime Video provided some hints. Sigourney Weaver will portray a new character named Evelyn Wallis, who is described asA enigmatic, ambitious woman eager to capitalize on Lara’s abilities.Additional characters from the games will also be featured, such as Winston the butler, portrayed by Bill Paterson, Lara’s uncle Atlas DeMornay, played by Jason Isaacs, and her tech-savvy friend Zip, performed by Martin Bobb-Semple.
Sophie’s part represents the third significant live-action adaptation of Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie portrayed the character in the early 2000s films, succeeded by Alicia Vikander in the 2018 film.
Even with the rigorous training and health obstacles, Sophie is fully dedicated to the role. As she gets ready to return Lara Croft to the screen, she is building up her strength, abilities, and a greater awareness of her own boundaries.
