Jennifer Lawrencealleged that she was denied the part of Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood due to negative comments about her appearance.
In 2017, enthusiasts were stunned by the announcement thatQuentin Tarantinowas working on a film about the Manson killings, and speculation began that he was considering Lawrence andMargot Robbie to play Tate.
Debra, Tate’s sister, finally spoke out about the issue,stating outright that Lawrence was ‘not attractive enough’ for the roleand that she favored Robbie.
Tarantino ultimately chose Robbie, along with a cast featuring LeonardoDiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margaret Qualley, Dakota Fanning and Austin Butler.
Now, 35-year-old Lawrence has shared her own recollection of how things transpired, stating that Tarantino “did” want her for the role “and then everyone was like: ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate.'”during a recent event for 92NY.
That’s not accurate,” said interviewer Josh Horowitz, to which Lawrence responded: “I’m fairly certain it is true, or perhaps it’s the case where I’ve been recounting that story in this manner for so long that I now believe it, but I’m fairly confident that it actually occurred.


The actress from The Hunger Games commented: ‘Or perhaps he never had me in mind for the role and the internet simply went out of its way to label me as unattractive.’
Sharon Tate, who appeared in Valley of the Dolls, was eight months pregnant with her husband Roman Polanski when she waskilled by the Manson Family in 1969.
Her sibling Debra has now emerged as a strong advocate for crime victims’ rights, passionately working to prevent the release of Manson Family members from prison.
In 2017, as rumors circulated that Lawrence was being considered for the role of Tate in Tarantino’s movie, Debra gained widespread attention for dismissing the possibility.
“She isn’t attractive enough to portray Sharon,” Debra famously stated in an interview withTMZ. “I would choose Margot mainly because of her physical attractiveness and the way she presents herself is comparable to Sharon’s.”
Soon after, it was revealed that Robbie had been officially selected, sparking a flurry of speculation about whether Debra’s comments had influenced the choice.
Debra went to the set of the movie and later praised it, saying that watching Robbie play her sister “made me cry because she sounded exactly like Sharon,” throughVanity Fair.
Meanwhile Tarantino himself once noted that Lawrence was a candidate for Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, but not for the part of Sharon Tate.



As per Tarantino, Lawrence auditioned for the part of Manson Family member Lynette ‘Squeaky’ Fromme, who later served time in prison for trying to kill U.S. President Gerald Ford in 1975 and was portrayed in the film by Dakota Fanning.
Tarantino mentioned that Lawrence “came to the house to read the script, because I wasn’t letting it go,” during a 2021 episode of Marc Maron’s podcast.WTF.
“So she came to the house and I handed her the script, telling her, ‘Go into my living room or go outside by the pool and read it,’ ” he remembered.
“She reviewed it, and later, we had a brief discussion. She showed some interest in proceeding, but something went wrong,” he explained vaguely.
In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, Lawrence revealed that she had once turned down the female lead role in Tarantino’s 2015 film The Hateful Eight. “I said no, and I shouldn’t have,” she added with a wry smile.
Jennifer Jason Leigh ultimately portrayed the harsh outlaw Daisy Domergue in The Hateful Eight, a film that also included notable actors such as Samuel L. Jackson, Walton Goggins, Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, and Channing Tatum.
