Lara Croft is set to appear on the small screen in a new Prime Video series.Tomb Raider series. And a fresh actor will be portraying the cherished main character.

Game of Thrones alum Sophie Turner will portray the new Lara Croft in the upcoming television series adaptation ofTomb Raiderby Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Prime Video recently unveiled Turner’s initial appearance as Lara Croft in a blue-green tank top combined with black shorts and red-hued sunglasses. She also featured the character’s iconic braid, utility belt, fingerless gloves, and a firearm.

Sophie Turner is the third actress to portray Lara Croft in a live-action movie. Prior to her, two other actresses had taken on the role in separate films. Additionally, another performer has also given life to this famous character in an animated television series.

Three actresses have portrayed Lara Croft on screen. The most recent is Sophie Turner in the upcoming Prime Video series. She will be the first live-action version of Lara to appear on television. Turner made a 2025 statement following her casting, according to E! News:

I’ve been a dedicated fan for a long timeTomb Raiderand the character of Lara. They’re huge shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Angelina and Alicia with their strong performances.

Her taking on the role comes after the notable performances of the character by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.

Angelina Jolie was the first to portray Lara in a live-action movie on two occasions. The first instance occurred in 2001 inLara Croft: Tomb Raider and the 2003 sequel, The Cradle of LifeThe Academy Award-winning actress shared with People in February 2025 that she first declined the part but later reconsidered.

However, Jolie’s depiction of the famous archaeologist came with a twist. She reportedly said to People:

They told me, ‘You can travel around the world and train with the British military.’ I responded, ‘I’ll wear the shorts for the first five minutes and then I’ll never put them on again.’ And that’s true. That’s the movie.

Alicia Vikander was the second actress to portray Lara in a 2018 live-action film adaptation.Tomb RaiderShe was expected to come back for a sequel, which was revealed the following year after the first film came out.

Nevertheless, MGM no longer held the rights to the franchise, and by 2022, Vikander was no longer involved with the project. She mentioned to The Independent in 2024 that she would have liked to return for the role and felt “sad” that it didn’t take place.

The most recent actress to portray Lara Croft in a live-action production is Sophie Turner. Her selection was revealed in November 2024. And as the actress mentioned during a recent interview onThe Julia Cunningham Show, she has been practicing “eight hours per day, five days each week” for the part since February 2025.

Hayley Atwell provided the voice for Lara Croft in an animated show.

Actress Hayley Atwell also gave voice to Lara Croft’s character inTomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.The 2024 Netflix animated show features Lara embarking on an animated journey to face a “superpowered mercenary and an ancient cult.”

She also came back to provide the voice for the character in the second and final season of the animated series. It was released in December 2025.
