The moment has finally arrived:28 Years Later: The Temple of Bones has landed on the 2026 movie scheduleand has introduced another shockingly violent and deeply moving entry in one of thebest horror franchises around. After watching Nia DaCosta’s near-perfect follow-up to Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, and getting through its conclusion (which appears to hint at a new journey), I have some questions I hope the next film will address.

These five questions cover subjects such as the future of a possible cure for the virus, the direction characters (both human and infected) will take next, and narrative elements I hope receive more attention in the upcoming third installment.28 Years Laterfilm. Let’s dismantle them all now.

Will we discover more about a cure, or did that hope fade with Dr. Kelson?

Although a remedy for the Rage virus has been mentioned occasionally throughout the series,28 Years Later: The Temple of Bonespushed that concept to an entirely different degree. Although the unconventional but motivating bond between Dr. Ian Kelson,Ralph Fiennes’ lone doctor, coated in iodine, and Samson, Chi Lewis-Parry’s infected alpha, the notion of a cure shifts from being highly unlikely to a genuine chance. However, with Kelson deceased at the conclusion of the film and only Samson aware of his possible cure, what will happen to this revelation?

I’m unsure whether Kelson completed his notes or made arrangements prior to his death at the hands of Sir Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) and his group, but I hope that humanity’s opportunity for salvation and a fresh start wasn’t lost. I believe this matter will likely be explored in the upcoming sequel, but I wouldn’t be shocked if this feeling of optimism fades, given the series’ dark atmosphere.

Where Is Samson Going Next?

One of the most intriguing figures inThe Bone Temple is Samson, the well-endowed infectedwe met for the first time last summer. At first, I believed this was going to beanother instance of a clever undead creaturelike the ones we encountered inGeorge A. Romero’s Living Dead movies, Samson’s path took on a deeper emotional and impactful dimension as he evolved from a furious creature into a more relatable figure.

That being said, I’m curious about where Samson will head next now that he appears to have been healed by Dr. Kelson’s mixture of different substances targeting various parts of the infection. Even though he was attacked by a group of infected on the train, during which memories of his previous life flooded back, he still seemed aware and showed loyalty to his unexpected friend in the last moments of the film. Did the cure make him resistant to the bites, scratches, and blood exposure he endured in that intense scene? I hope the upcoming film delves further into this, as it presents numerous potential storylines.

What Occurred to the Infant After Spike Took Her to Lindisfarne?

I entered the movie anticipating tosee more of the broader world hinted at in the previous installmentHowever, Nia DaCosta’s sequel was more concentrated on just a few characters. That being said, I kept thinking about the baby Spike (Alfie Williams) who was taken to his old home in Lindisfarne after he helped deliver her from an infected woman. We never saw her again, nor did we see Spike’s father, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), or anyone else from the community cut off by a causeway.

I’m simply curious about what became of the child after she found safety and support within the close community. Could she be essential to finding a cure for the infection, considering she remained uninfected even though her mother was affected by rage? And am I imagining it, or is there a suggestion that Samson is her father? If that’s true, will the newly aware alpha seek out his daughter?

How will Kelly (formerly Jimmy Ink) perceive the world now that her viewpoint has shifted?

Although she technically appeared in the last moments of the28 Years Later ending, Jimmy Ink (Erin Kellyman) appeared only briefly in the 2025 film. However, things were different in the new sequel, where the loyal but skeptical member of Jimmy Crystal’s gang played a significant role. In fact, her path from traveling across the island with Jimmy to embarking on a new journey with Spike (and reclaiming her original name, Kelly) was truly compelling. But what comes next for her?

Kelly’s entire perspective shifts by the time she and Spike nail Jimmy to an upside-down cross, reminiscent of St. Peter, in Dr. Kelson’s sanctuary. Now I’m curious about how she perceives things after realizing Sir Jimmy was full of lies. I hope the final scene, where Kelly and Spike flee from a group of infected while a returning Jim (Cillian Murphy) observes from a distance, indicates that we’ll see more of her in the next installment. With this newfound clarity, how will she process the virus, the world, and her role within it?

Finally, Where Are Selena and Hannah?

I wasn’t particularly surprised when Jim appeared in the final scene of28 Years Later, as Cillian Murphy’s participation has been hinted at repeatedly over the past year or so. That being said, I was surprised that although we did get a new character with Jim’s young daughter, Selena (Naomie Harris) and Hannah (Megan Burns) were not present. They survived the28 Days Later endingMany years ago, they were seen with Jim in the small farmhouse as he healed from his injuries. So, where are they now?

I would be really disappointed if the next movie did aAlien 3by disclosing that Selena and Hannah passed away between the events of the two movies. These two characters were essential to the compelling narrative of the franchise’s first film almost a quarter of a century ago, and their tales deserve to be shared.

All of these questions are expected to be resolved in the near future, asDeadline has stated that Sony is proceeding with28 Years Later III(or whatever it ends up being named). I just don’t know when that will happen.
