Amy Madigan and Ed Harris Make a Statement on the Golden Globes Red Carpet

Amy Madigan and her husband, Ed Harris, made a bold fashion statement as they stepped onto the red carpet for the 2026 Golden Globes. The couple, both 75 years old, chose to wear matching tuxedos, a nod to their own iconic look from the 1996 Golden Globes. This time, however, their outfits were not just a throwback but a deliberate homage to their past.

The Hollywood power couple was seen in black jackets, pants, white button-up shirts, and matching bowties. Madigan’s jacket had a slight variation, with a longer cascade down toward the floor, adding a unique touch to her ensemble. She also opted for a pair of black-rimmed glasses, which added an air of sophistication to her overall look.

Madigan is currently nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the 2025 horror film Weapons. This marks her second Golden Globe nomination, following her first win in 1990 for her television performance in Roe vs. Wade. Despite her strong showing, she ultimately lost the award to Teyana Taylor.

Alongside Madigan and Harris was their daughter, Lily, who joined them for photos before they headed inside to take their seats at the ceremony. The family dynamic was evident as they posed together, showcasing their close relationship.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly’s sister publication, PEOPLE, makeup artist Nick Barose shared his inspiration for Madigan’s glamorous look for the evening. “I always do my homework, especially when working with a veteran like Amy, who I’ve been a fan of for decades,” Barose said. He continued, “I loved how Amy looked in menswear-inspired suits. It follows the traditions of other Hollywood greats like Katharine Hepburn, Greta Garbo, and Marlene Dietrich who rocked menswear while looking so badass. But for someone like Amy, who has so many cool red carpet looks from the ’80s and ’90s, I like to draw inspirations from her [own] past iconic looks.”

Harris and Madigan are no strangers to making headlines at awards shows, though not always for their fashion choices. In 1999, the couple attended the Oscars and were shown on camera refusing to clap for On the Waterfront director Elia Kazan, who had accepted an Honorary Oscar that year. Kazan had faced backlash in Hollywood after testifying at the House Un-American Activities Committee in 1952, naming eight people involved in Communist Party activities.

Madigan later reflected on this moment, explaining that her father, a political analyst and journalist, had been deeply affected by McCarthyism during his time on Capitol Hill. “That whole thing was really bringing it back to me. I was like, ‘Nope.’” Though this quote wasn’t published in the final article, it was shared on social media by journalist Kyle Buchanan.

Kazan’s HUAC testimony led to him becoming an outsider in many Hollywood circles. His actions sparked controversy and divided opinions among industry peers.

Madigan and Harris continue to make waves, not only through their fashion choices but also through their strong personal convictions. Their presence on the red carpet serves as a reminder of their enduring influence in both the entertainment world and beyond.
