A Christmas Gift That’s Hard to Forget

Chris Pratt recently shared a hilarious and heartwarming story about his father-in-law, Arnold Schwarzenegger, during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. The actor described how the former California governor and action star has a unique way of showing love—through extravagant gifts.

“His love language is giving gifts, that’s for sure,” Pratt said when asked about how Schwarzenegger “goes big on Christmas.” He went on to explain that this year, the gift was something truly unforgettable. It was a 6-foot-by-8-foot portrait painting featuring all three of his children and Schwarzenegger as Santa Claus. The image was so lifelike that it even captured the kids peeking around the Christmas tree while Santa ate a cookie.

Pratt and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, have three children: daughters Lyla Marie, 5, and Eloise Christina, 3, and son Ford, 1. (Pratt also shares a son, Jack, 13, with his ex-wife Anna Faris.)

When Norton pointed out that such a gift might not be practical for much of the year, Pratt joked, “Yeah, I’m not sure exactly what we’re supposed to do with that for the rest of the year. I think we’ll have to break that out in November sometime. It’s big, it’s in a frame and it’s a big massive [painting].”

Dawn French, another guest on the show, suggested that the painting couldn’t really be regifted either. Pratt laughed and clarified that it wasn’t the only gift he received from his famous father-in-law. “It was a very thoughtful gift, and he also gave me a pair of crocodile boots that he wore in a movie — we have the same size feet.”

Though he couldn’t recall the name of the film, Pratt added, “They’re regifted but they’re iconic, he wore them in some movie.”

While he hasn’t revealed the painting itself, Pratt did share photos of other gifts he received over the holiday on his Instagram account. In a post captioned “Merry Christmas! Remember: presence over presents. Except these. These can stay,” he showed off a coffee mug with an image of Jesus saying, “I saw that,” as well as a copy of former president Theodore Roosevelt’s book Outdoor Pastimes of an American Hunter and bound copies of scripts for Pratt’s recent projects, including Mercy, Garfield, Way of the Warrior Kid, and The Terminal List.

Pratt’s story highlights not just the generosity of his father-in-law, but also the fun and lighthearted way he approaches holiday traditions. Whether it’s a giant painting or a pair of crocodile boots, it seems that Schwarzenegger’s love language is definitely one of grand gestures. And for Pratt, it’s a reminder that sometimes, the best gifts are the ones that bring a smile—and maybe a few laughs—to your face.
