The Rise of KPop Demon Hunters and the New Project

Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters made a significant impact in 2025, becoming a standout hit that captivated audiences worldwide. Following its success, the writing team behind the movie has landed an exciting new opportunity that promises to be just as groundbreaking.

Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, the writers of KPop Demon Hunters, are now set to craft the screenplay for Tim Burton’s remake of the classic sci-fi film Attack of the 50 Foot Woman. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap, is set to produce and develop the remake. This project marks a major step forward for both the writers and the director, who is known for his unique visual style and storytelling.

Tim Burton, the visionary behind films like Beetlejuice and Batman Forever, will direct the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman remake. He will also serve as a producer alongside Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian will act as an executive producer, while Morgan Begg oversees the film for LuckyChap.

A Classic Reimagined

The original Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, released in 1958, tells the story of a wealthy socialite who, after being released from a mental institution, turns into a giant to take revenge on her cheating husband. The film was directed by Nathan Juran and written by Mark Hanna, with Allison Hayes and William Hudson in leading roles.

Jimenez and McMechan have shared their excitement about working on the remake, stating, “We’re obsessed with the idea of a fifty-foot woman wreaking havoc because a man did her dirty.” They added, “We have a feeling a lot of people will relate.”

The Success of KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters was not only Netflix’s most-watched film of all time but also received critical acclaim. It was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards and five Grammy Awards. The film won the best animated feature award at the Critics’ Choice Awards and also took home the prize for best original song. In addition, it was featured in Time as the publication’s 2025 Breakthrough of the Year.

Will Margot Robbie Star in the Remake?

While Robbie’s production company is involved in the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman remake, it has not been confirmed if she will star in the film. In August 2025, Variety reported that Robbie was in early discussions to appear in the movie.

Tim Burton has spoken about his approach to the project, saying, “One thing I learned very early on is that until I’m on the set doing something I don’t know if I’m doing it.” He continued, “I’ve had projects, I was doing a Superman [movie] once, I did another project that I worked for a year upon, and it didn’t happen. When those things happen, it’s quite traumatic, it’s quite emotional. So, I’m very protective of myself. In Hollywood, when you’re doing something, you may think you’re doing something, until they tell you you’re not doing something. You get quite traumatized by those situations, so I wait until I’m on the set, and then I will tell you, ‘Yes’, because I’m actually doing it. But before then, I don’t know.”

What’s Next?

As of now, the Attack of the 50 Foot Woman remake does not have a release date. However, with such a talented team involved, fans are eagerly anticipating what the future holds for this reimagined classic.
