Ben Affleck and Matt Damon’s 40-Year Friendship

Ben Affleck and Matt Damonare set to release crime thriller The Rip onNetflix, presenting viewers with another on-screen collaboration between the genuine close friends who initially laid the foundation for a career partnership when they were teenagers living nearbyBoston.

But it has progressed so quickly, you might overlook the fact that this energetic action movie will be available to watch this weekend; writer-director Joe Carnahan managed to secure both stars, along with their company, Actors Equity, within 48 hours – and for a film that didn’t have a script two years ago.

“It rarely ever goes down that way!” Carnahan exclaims about the ‘wild’ pace. But that’s simply how Damon and Affleck operate.

“It’s one of the aspects we take pride in at our company, as we’re all filmmakers, allowing us to work very efficiently,” Damon says.Live Video Streaming of a Film Online. “Frequently, these projects stagnate, as Hollywood typically progresses at a very slow rate, and being a smaller company, we are able to act swiftly.”

They also have experience with quick delivery and manufacturing via their company, established in 2022.

When we worked on Air together, I believe we completed the film before the deal was finalized, and Amazon approached us, to which we said, ‘No, we’re finished with it, here’s the movie!’. They were somewhat taken aback by this – but that’s the way we prefer to operate.

‘Also, the cast that showed up,’ adds Affleck, referring to The Rip. ‘We went up and said we think we should do it right away – you know, here’sTeyana [Taylor], here’s Steven Yeun, Sasha [Calle], here’s Kyle Chandler.

The Rip – a clever and stylish Netflix mystery

In The Rip, the duo portray Miami police officers who are members of a group that uncovers a cache believed to be $20 million (£14.8m) in a safehouse. They must count the funds before departing the location, while also enduring the night as doubts begin to arise.

Damon takes charge as Lieutenant Dane Dumars, a newly appointed officer, while Affleck plays his friend and fellow officer, Detective Sergeant J.D. Byrne.

There were no difficulties in determining who would take on which role.

“We’re quite neutral. Particularly in a situation like this, where both performances were outstanding,” says Damon.

“And we’re director-focused, it’s a director’s craft, the director makes that choice,” says Affleck, referring to letting Carnahan decide.

Highlight an epic casual name drop that only stars of this caliber can pull off, from Damon.

I recall that took place in The Departed whereLeo [DiCaprio]I enjoyed both roles, and we simply told Marty [Scorsese], “We’re completely neutral. What do you think? It’s your decision; you’re the director.” It has to be the director’s choice. It needs to align with the director’s vision.

Both actors have remained cheerful during our discussion so far, with Damon making a joke when I mentioned I had spoken to Carnahan just before him: “My condolences.”

“Are your ears ringing? Joe has a lot of energy,” interrupts Affleck.

A long-term friendship led to success in the film industry

However, when I bring up their more than 40-year friendship and how they have collaborated so effectively (earning an Oscar in 1998 for the screenplay of Good Will Hunting, which marked their major success), the discussion becomes more intense.

“I’ve had a career that’s gone up, down, left, right, and everywhere in between, so it’s good to be on this side now,” he says, with Damon and Affleck playing a major role in that.

You’re watching two individuals who are beloved by audiences and desired to be on screen, especially in a film like this, which is a significant aspect: these two men in this movie. And I’m extremely happy and excited that it turned out as it did.

The Rip is available only on Netflix starting Friday, January 16.
