Former Saturday Night Live star Bowen Yang has retracted his statements regarding Rep.Jasmine Crockett(D-TX) after he and comicMatt Rogers informed their supporters “avoid spending money” on the Democratic legislator’s Senate election effort.

Yang and Rogers both took back their statements through separate Instagram posts on Saturday. Their retractions came after some social media users accused Yang of “anti-Blackness” for advising Democrats not to contribute to Crockett.

Should not have quickly commented on this,” Yang posted. “I now understand the platform and will use it more responsibly.

His remarks were included in the re-sharing of what Rogers had stated on the subject.

Rogers stated that he is a “highly progressive individual who is deeply committed to winning these elections, but my wording was incorrect. I will be more careful moving forward! I truly promise.”

He stated, “I have a lot of respect and appreciation for Rep. Crockett, and I’m sorry my words gave the opposite impression. I simply want us to succeed, and I will improve at discovering ways to contribute.”

Their remarks on Saturday followedRogers implored their audienceto refrain from giving any money to Crockett on the Wednesday episode of theirsLas Culturistas podcast.

“Avoid spending your money on Jasmine Crockett. Don’t do it,” Rogers stated.

Yang then added, “I have to agree.”

As noted earlier, several individuals claimed the comedians were “anti-Black” and racist after the podcast was released.

On the same episode, Yangtalked about his choice to leave SNL last month, halfway through the 51st season of the show.

Yang mentioned that he had to operate within a “stereotype” on the show and stated, “whenever I tried to go beyond that, it was completely overlooked or it still ended up being reduced to, ‘Oh, he’s being gay and Asian as usual.'”
