Cary Elwes, known for his role in the new film Dead Man’s Wire, has shared insights into his 25-year marriage to his wife, Lisa Marie Elwes. The couple met in 1991 at a chili cook-off in Malibu, an event that marked the beginning of their journey together.

A Meeting That Changed Everything

Elwes recalls the moment he first met Lisa Marie with a mix of nostalgia and humor. “It’s going to be a crazy ride,” he told her right after they met. This sentiment seems to have been prophetic, as their life together has certainly been anything but ordinary.

The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in June 2025, and they are now parents to 18-year-old daughter Dominique. For Elwes, family is the cornerstone of his life. “I need to be with my family. My family are who I am,” he says. When he’s away on set, the absence is palpable. “On the set, as soon as they yell ‘Cut!’ and send me home, I’m bereft without my family.”

A Life Full of Ups and Downs

Their journey has not been without challenges. Last January, the Elwes family lost their home in the California wildfires. Despite this setback, they also celebrated their 25th anniversary and watched Dominique graduate from high school. The teen is now studying film at college, and though the family is becoming an empty nest, Elwes doesn’t feel that way just yet.

“She comes home,” Elwes says of Dominique. “She likes being with the family so far.” He is proud of her decision to follow in his footsteps into the movie industry. “She loves it. She’s already made her first short movie,” he shares. “I’m really proud of her. She’s the best production I’ll ever do.”

Advice from a Veteran Actor

Elwes has offered his daughter some valuable advice about navigating the entertainment industry. “I’ve just told her to be herself. Don’t try to be anyone else,” he says. He believes that authenticity is key. “I think it’s your uniqueness that makes you interesting, not trying to be someone. See through that. So, just who you are is beautiful. You don’t have to change it for anyone. Just be yourself and the rest will follow.”

He hopes to work with Dominique one day, joking, “She’s going to end up being a bigger star than me. I’ll have to talk to her agent for sure.”

Looking Ahead

As for the future, Elwes is excited about his latest project, Dead Man’s Wire, which is currently playing in select theaters before expanding on Friday, January 16. The film is a testament to his enduring passion for storytelling and his commitment to his craft.

Through all the highs and lows, Elwes remains grateful for his family and the life they’ve built together. His journey with Lisa Marie and Dominique is a reminder of the power of love, resilience, and staying true to oneself.
