Ethan Hawke Expresses Pride in Daughter Maya’s Acting Career
Ethan Hawke, known for his role in Blue Moon, recently shared his admiration for his daughter Maya’s acting career. The 55-year-old actor, who is nominated for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy at the 2026 Golden Globes, expressed immense pride in Maya’s work as Robin on Stranger Things.
“I’m proud of her as a human being, first and foremost,” Ethan said during an exclusive interview with Zuri Hall on Live From E!: Golden Globes 2026 at the Beverly Hilton on January 11. He was joined by his wife, Ryan Hawke, during the event.
“She is awesome on that show and that show is right up my alley and I loved it.” Ethan praised Maya’s performance, noting that the show aligns with his personal interests.
The actor, who shares Maya with his ex-wife Uma Thurman, highlighted how the role of Robin was a perfect fit for his daughter. “The fact that she’s as young as she is and she’s already set off on her own,” he continued. “Her music is amazing—all her work inspires me.”
Ethan added, “I am very proud of her, is the short answer.”
A Father’s Insight into Maya’s Artistic Journey
Maya, now 27, has been making waves in the entertainment industry, and Ethan believes her path was destined from an early age. “I knew when she was about 4 that she was gonna be an artist,” he told Sydney Sweeney in a Variety Actors on Actors conversation in December. “And I knew that she was gonna be a very good one.”
According to Ethan, Maya found her safe place in creative outlets like watercoloring, dancing, and singing throughout her childhood. “There were a lot of things about her childhood that were really, really hard and complicated, and things I regret for her,” he explained.
While he didn’t elaborate on the specifics of these challenges, Ethan emphasized how inspiring it was to watch Maya find her voice as an artist. “I remember some teacher said, ‘Maya, are you happy?’ ‘Cause they were worried about her,” he recalled. “And she said something to the effect of, ‘Do you really think that’s the question?’ I thought, ‘I love this kid.’ She was about 13.”
He continued, “Maya said, ‘I don’t think that’s a very interesting question. I think there’s a lot more interesting questions than whether I’m happy or not. Am I happy? No. But I don’t aspire to be happy.’ So I never worried about her going into the arts, because I knew that was gonna save her life.”

Ethan is also the father of Levon, 23, with Uma Thurman, and daughters Clementine Jane, 17, and Indiana, 14, with his wife Ryan. His family has always been a source of inspiration for him, especially Maya, whose journey in the arts has captivated him.
