Ex-Official: GiatMara ‘Bullying’ Incident Is Old News

MELAKA: According to the state education, higher education, and religious affairs committee chairman, Rahmad Mariman, the incident involving a disabled trainee allegedly being bullied at the Durian Tunggal GiatMara has long since been settled.

He mentioned that the event occurred in February, but it only attracted notice lately after spreading widely on social media.

He mentioned that the students implicated were called for questioning by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) after an inquiry was conducted.

MARA has documented statements from everyone concerned, and the students implicated have subsequently offered apologies. They are currently progressing with their skill development courses and participating in plant training, and the matter is now regarded as resolved.

“The trainee alleged to have been bullied did not suffer any harm,” Rahmad stated to journalists today.

The chairman of Mara, Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, stated in a Facebook post earlier today that there will be zero tolerance towards anyone engaging in bullying—be it physical or mental—at any educational institution under Mara’s purview.

“The Mara management at all levels and within its educational institutions fully understands my stance. The strictest action will be taken if there is evidence of misconduct or criminal bullying,” he said.

Reports indicated that a youth posted a two-minute clip online showing a differently-abled student with learning challenges from Durian Tunggal GiatMara in Melaka alleging he was harassed.

The youth was taken aback when he encountered the student at the badminton court and heard directly from them about what happened.
