Fans are calling for explanations after discovering that two of its lead actors were separated during their childhoods.

In the most recent episode though, they discussed how they were separated during their childhoods, with Brian, who was 62, going off to boarding school, whereas Melvyn, aged 65, remained at home.

‘Mum was quite hard work. We weren’t a particularly loving family,’ Brian began, as they embarked on a fishing trip and sampled lotus flowers inPuzhehei, western

He later mentioned that up until today, they were still unclear as to why he was sent off to boarding school when he was about ten years old, whereas Melvyn went to a state secondary school.

Elaborating on the effect of the decision, Brian confessed: “I didn’t experience feelings of importance or privilege. Quite the contrary, I felt bewildered. It was more like, ‘What did I do to deserve this?'”

To Brian’s astonishment, Melvyn disclosed that his parents had not told him about his brother going to boarding school.

He stated: “There’s something I struggle to understand, and I still do today. It came as a surprise because nobody informed me that you would be attending either a private or boarding school. You simply made the transition.”

Melvyn also shared how being distanced without an explanation took a significant emotional toll during his youth.

‘The feeling it gave me was that our parents must be watching how I’m growing up, and they wouldn’t want Brian to end up like me,’ he stated.

He said: ‘[My parents were] likely taking my brother, who was probably my closest friend back then, away.’

Brian and Melvyn acknowledged that usually they avoid talking about their childhood, yet as they aged, they began to open up more on the subject.

Brian commented, “In our later days, it’s rather pleasant that we can discuss this.”

Melvyn also shared his wish to ‘clear out the spirits.’

On X, viewers of Race Across The World voiced their interest in unraveling the ‘puzzling mystery’ surrounding the brothers’ distinct educational paths while praising the mending of their bond as they worked through past grievances.

Included among them was @fadeeintoyou, who mentioned: ‘Totally hooked on this bizarre enigma regarding why only one brother attended boarding school while the other did not; planning to dive deeper into this and demanding a documentary for more insights #raceacrosstheworld.’

@RosemaryLee19 expressed similar curiosity with her comment ‘Genuinely want to understand the reason behind Brian and Melvin attending separate educational institutions’.

In the meantime, @KingofSunshine commented: ‘The brothers with distinct accents make for entertaining companions. There are many issues that need addressing here.’

Others, though, simply enjoyed witnessing the reunion between the two men. @clarijo38210 mentioned: ‘This could very well be among the most significant discussions for Brian and Melvyn.’

@DSJ1974 wrote: ‘Adoring Brian and Mel on #raceacrosstheworld. Siblings reconnecting once more… Excellent competitors this season…’

@nickmhyde also included: ‘We must protect Melvyn and Brian at all costs #raceacrosstheworld.’

Alongside Brian and Melvyn, the contest also features the team of Fin and Sioned, the parent-child pair of Caroline and Tom, as well as the siblings Elizabeth and Letitia.
