Los Angeles Lakers
endured an 116-113 loss in Game 4 of their matchup with the Minnesota Timberwolves. This brings the Lakers’ standing in the series to 1-3.

During the game, Doncic racked up 38 points along with one rebound and two assists. In contrast, Edwards accumulated an impressive 43 points, added six assists, and pulled down nine rebounds.

Perkins now asserts that Edwards’ performance in the final quarter significantly surpassed Doncic’s. Additionally, he believes that Edwards will secure an NBA title before Doncic manages to do so.

Kendrick Perkins discusses Luka Doncic versus Anthony Edwards

In conversation with Stephen A. Smith, Perkins stated, “During the fourth quarter and particularly the second half, which included the final period, I understood what Nico Harrison meant. The rationale behind trading Luka was clear—he believed the Dallas Mavericks wouldn’t win a title with just Luka. This wasn’t my impression as I watched Anthony Edwards play.”

He stated, “I keep thinking to myself that Anthony Edwards will claim a championship title before Luka Doncic does. Anthony Edwards has something special about him; he’s just constructed differently. In my view, Anthony Edwards outshines Luka Doncic as an overall basketball player.”

He went on, “Luka is still quite young. He ought to manage those 24 consecutive minutes without issue. Anthony Edwards managed them effectively though. Considering his performance both past and present, not only did he help eliminate KD [Kevin Durant] last season, but also Jokic; now, he’s poised to do the same for LeBron and Luka this year as their team will likely clinch this series with their victory.”

Perkins mentioned that Edwards and the Timberwolves might go up against Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors in the subsequent round. For Edwards, defeating the Warriors would hold considerable importance. Perkins elaborated, “This guy is simply extraordinary. It’s not only about scoring over 40 points, dishing out assists, and grabbing rebounds; he also defends incredibly well. He was eager to compete with LeBron, challenged Luka, which I appreciate, and even went after Austin Reeves.”

Perkins also considers Anthony Edwards to be among the best five players in the NBA right now. He feels it would be unwise for any team to disregard Anthony Edwards at this stage.
