The global community was stunned by “Godzilla Minus One,” which made its debut in 2023. The movie, produced by Toho, premiered in Japan on November 3, 2023, and was released in the United States on December 1, 2023.
With a reported budget ranging from $10 to $15 million, the movie generated $116 million globally at the box office. Even more remarkable is that it became one of the most beloved “Godzilla” films ever produced, securing the franchise’s first-ever Academy Award and marking the first Japanese-language film to be nominated for Best Visual Effects. It ultimately won the award, prompting numerous inquiries about when a follow-up would be released.
“Godzilla Minus Zero” has been revealed and now has a scheduled release. The follow-up was unveiled in November 2025, and it is set to return to cinemas on November 6, 2026.

Takashi Yamazaki was involved in writing, directing, and overseeing the visual effects for the first movie, and he returns as writer, director, and VFX supervisor for this latest sequel.
Not much is known about the follow-up, but it is expected to carry forward the compelling narrative from “Godzilla Minus One.” The movie followskamikazePilot Kōichi Shikishima. Shikishima goes back to his house to discover that his parents were killed during a World War II air raid.
Shikishima forms a friendship with a woman who is raising a child, the parents of whom were also killed. As Japan begins to recover, Godzilla resurfaces, creating havoc in a nation already in ruins. Shikishima then becomes part of a committee and a group that creates a strategy to prevent the Kaiju from further destroying what remains.
“Godzilla Minus Zero” is expected to adhere to a similar trend, set during the post-WWII recovery period for the nation, as Godzilla could resurface once more. The conclusion of the initial movie depicted the “destruction” of the creature, only for him to begin his regeneration.
Since the first movie featured stunning visuals and a compelling narrative, it is expected that the follow-up will attract a larger audience to cinemas.
Toho is the creator of the Godzilla character, first introduced in 1954. A variety of movies have been produced within the franchise, including recent releases by Warner Bros. Toho grants permission for the use of the character, resulting in the highly popular “Godzilla vs. Kong” series, despite the fact that they are not connected.
In any case, the newest project from Toho is set to come out in November.
