The Marvel Super Hero Movie Universe has beenbuilding up to the introduction of the X-Men for years now. It started in 2022 when it was disclosed that Kamala Khan is a mutant in theMs. Marvelfinal; continued with the appearances of Professor X and Beast inDoctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and The Marvels; advanced with the parallel universe narrative that isDeadpool & Wolverine, and more recently, we received acheck out some cherished characters in a sneak peek forAvengers: Doomsday. At this stage, fans are eagerly anticipating the direction it will take – and this applies not only to those watching the movies, but also to those involved in creating them.

Nia DaCosta, recognized by MCU enthusiasts for directing 2023’sThe Marvels, has been on the press tour for the past few weeks28 Years Later: The Temple of Bones (which is presently battling with Avatar: Fire And Ashfor the top position at the box office), and she was questioned regarding her connection with Marvel Studios during an interview withInverse. Despite her work on the franchise having a somewhat negative legacy due to its poor box office results, she remains on positive terms with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and she even had the chance to ask the executive/filmmaker questions about the future of mutants in the storyline during a visit to the set ofAvengers: Doomsday. Said DaCosta,

I’m a huge X-Men fan and I was just beside myself. I remember asking Kevin, “What’s going to happen, Kevin? What’s happening?” It’s emotional for my nerdy little girl heart.

As hinted earlier, the filmmaker had the opportunity to share tales featuring mutant characters within the MCU inThe Marvels, but what the future holds for the main X-Men team in the franchise has been a question that has lingered sinceDisney and 20th Century Fox finalized their merger in 2019.. As far as we can determine, the question will at least be directly tackled if not fully resolved inAvengers: Doomsday, which has been verified to include several mutant characters in the cast, featuring Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy / Beast, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, James Marsden as Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Gambit.

Will these versions of the characters be recognized as the main X-Men figures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Or are there future plans in the storyline?Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Warsthat will witness the canon completely change? It seems Nia DaCosta didn’t receive the responses she was hoping for during her private meeting with Kevin Feige, and we don’t anticipate those details becoming public anytime soon.

New teasers for Avengers: Doomsdaykeep releasing – including the latest, which includes heroes from Wakanda coming together with the Fantastic Four– and they are currently satisfying our craving, as we still have exactly 11 months until the MCU blockbuster hits theaters on December 18.
