Pixar Animation is consistently creating more exciting and heartfelt films, withHoppers and Toy Story 5 already set for the 2026 movie release calendar. And moving forward, the studio has numerous ones to prepare for, including the originalGatto and sequels for Incredibles and Coco. Now, one of the highlights of theIncredibles films has just released an update regarding when filming may commence.
At the D23 Expo in 2024, it was revealed thatIncredibles 3 would be happening, which has now been scheduled for a summer 2028 release. Although that means it’s two and a half years away, such films typically require four to six years to finish. Here’s what Holly Hunter, who plays Elastigirl, had to say about the current status from her perspective:
I believe I will begin in March.
Hunter has been advocating for her part inthe new Star Trek series, Starfleet Academy, where she portrays the leader of a spacecraft. During an interview withScreenRant, she shared that she is only two months away from returning to Pixar to take on the role of Helen Parr/Elastigirl again. She also mentioned this:
I’m not familiar with [the story], I never am. I never know what the stories are for The Incredibles. I go in and record with Brad, or in this case, I’m not sure if it will be Brad, but I believe he has been working on the script. So it’s really exciting.
Brad Bird wrote and directed the last twoIncrediblesfilms for Pixar, and he has come back to write and executive produceIncredibles 3. However, this time He’ll hand over the directing responsibilities to Peter Sohn, who previously helmed The Good Dinosaur and Elemental for Pixar.

Casting has not been discussed much so far forIncredibles 3, but naturally, it wouldn’t be the same without Holly Hunter’s voice, and she is reportedly beginning her part in the film very soon. We assumeIncredibles 3has already started at Pixar, as the studio conducts extensive work on concepts, story, and animation before involving the cast.
In some way, it has been more than eight years since the release ofIncredibles 2, which is regarded as one of thebest Pixar sequels. It showed Hunter’s character assuming the role of the primary provider (on covert missions) while her husband Bob/Mr. Incredible became a stay-at-home father. The film was a massive success, earning over $1.24 billion globally, which was the studio’s highest-grossing theatrical release for years until 2024’sInside Out 2exceeded its previous milestone with more than $1.69 billion in worldwide earnings.
As we now reside in an era where superhero films are far more common in theaters compared to 2004, we’ll be interested in how Pixar continues to keep the idea innovative, and what the next development will be for the Parr family.
