The Hunger Gamesstar, 35, also stated that she had once declined a part in the director’s Western thrillerThe Hateful Eight.

Speaking live during a recording of theJoyful Sorrowful Perplexed with Josh Horowitz, Lawrence replied to the host’s idea that Tarantino had been “pursuing” her to collaborate. “I’m not sure about that,” Lawrence stated.

After Horowitz mentioned the fugitive character of Daisy Domergue, portrayed by Jennifer Jason Leigh in 2015’sThe Hateful Eightwas initially composed for Lawrence, the actor confessed: “I declined it, which I shouldn’t have.”

Was she asked if Tarantino also wanted her to appear in 2019’sOnce Upon a Time… In Hollywood,Lawrence stated, “Well, he did, and then everyone said: ‘She’s not pretty enough to play Sharon Tate,’ and then they didn’t.”

When Horowitz asked if that was accurate, Lawrence responded, “I’m pretty certain it’s true. Or maybe it’s the situation where I’ve been recounting this story in this manner for so long that I now believe it. No, but I— I’m fairly sure it actually occurred—or perhaps he never intended to cast me in the role, and the internet just went out of its way to label me as unattractive.”

Margot Robbie went on to portray Tate, the leading actress in 1967’sValley of the Dollswho was killed by the Manson Family in 1969.

Tarantino has previously expressed thoughts about Lawrence’s possible participation inThe Hateful Eight, telling Entertainment Weeklyin 2015 he expressed being a “big fan of Jennifer Lawrence” but noted that the actor was too occupied with “all this publicity around the”Hunger Games movies.”

During a 2021 visit to theWTF with Marc Maronpodcast, Tarantino mentioned he had “looked into the possibility of Jennifer Lawrence portraying Squeaky,” one of Charles Manson’s followers, inOnce Upon a Time… In Hollywood.The role was ultimately performed by Dakota Fanning.

Before the launch ofOnce Upon a Time… In Hollywood,Tate’s sister Debra told TMZshe would rather have Margot Robbie portray her sister due to her “physical attractiveness, and the way she carries herself is comparable to Sharon’s.”

She mentioned that she believed Lawrence was “not attractive enough to portray Sharon. That’s a harsh comment, but, you know, I have my expectations.”
