The Actress and Her Longtime Friend

Jennifer Lawrence has always been open about her journey in the entertainment industry, and during a recent Q&A with entertainment journalist Josh Horowitz at the 92NY Kaufmann Concert Hall in New York City, she shared some personal stories that highlighted her relationship with longtime friend Emma Stone.

Lawrence revealed that there was one role she really wanted early in her career, which ended up going to Stone instead. “The one that I wanted that she got was Easy A,” she said. “I was nuts for Easy A, and I really should have gotten it, right? The movie could have turned out great,” she joked.

This particular role was especially disappointing for Lawrence, as she felt it would have been a perfect fit for her. However, she also acknowledged that Stone’s performance in the film was a success, and she didn’t seem too upset about it.

A Friendly Rivalry

Lawrence also shared an amusing story about how she reacted when Stone received a SAG Award nomination for her role in Bugonia, while she was notably left out of the nominations for her performance in Die My Love.

“We were over in [our friend] group chat, and she got nominated for SAG today, and I did not,” Lawrence said. “And I wrote, like, ‘What?’ And all of our friends were like, ‘Congratulations, Emma!’ And then I would just do, like, a sad face. And then every time she’s tried to talk today, I’ve just been like, ‘Why are you talking and not sorry? If you can talk, why are you not so sorry?’” she teased.

Despite the playful teasing, Lawrence added, “No, she’s been beating me for decades, and it’s an honor.” This friendly rivalry between the two actresses shows their deep bond and mutual respect.

Embarrassing Audition Stories

During the discussion, Lawrence also reflected on her early years of auditioning. She admitted that she had no formal acting training, which led to some unique and even embarrassing experiences.

“I didn’t do, like, [acting] classes or lessons, so when I started auditioning, I was just, you know, learning myself and teaching myself with no real feedback,” she recalled. “So I remember one of my first auditions, I was doing this [covers part of her face with her hand] — which I thought was brilliant because it’s so realistic. And they were like, ‘Cut, cut, what are you doing?’”

Lawrence continued, “And I was like, ‘Well the scene is outside,’ … and they were like, ‘Move your hand away from your face!’ So stuff like that.”

She admitted that she wasn’t a good auditioner at first but added, “But then every once in a while, you know, you get a callback.” These stories give a glimpse into the challenges she faced early in her career and how she eventually overcame them.

A Journey of Growth

Lawrence’s candidness about her past experiences highlights her growth as an actress and her ability to laugh at herself. From her early days of auditioning without formal training to her current status as an Oscar-winning star, her journey has been filled with both triumphs and awkward moments.

Her friendship with Emma Stone has also played a significant role in her career, with both actresses supporting each other through the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. Their bond continues to be a source of inspiration for fans and fellow actors alike.
