Jessie Buckley’s Undead Scream Shakes New ‘The Bride’ Trailer

Jessie Buckley is set to take on a new and unique role in the upcoming film "The Bride!" This project marks a departure from her acclaimed performance in "Hamnet," as she portrays a "badass" version of The Bride of Frankenstein. The latest trailer for the film gives fans a glimpse into this exciting new chapter in Buckley’s career.

Buckley has previously collaborated with Maggie Gyllenhaal on "The Lost Daughter," which earned her her first Academy Award nomination. In "The Bride!", she teams up with Christian Bale, who plays the Frankenstein’s Monster. The film features a compelling narrative where Buckley’s character is murdered, then re-animated to become a companion to the monster.

The story takes an intriguing turn as the pair embarks on a Bonnie and Clyde-style rampage through 1930s America. The film blends elements of music, dance, and action, creating a unique cinematic experience. The soundtrack features Florence + The Machine’s song "Everybody Scream," adding to the film’s energetic atmosphere.

In the trailer, Buckley is seen with her hair styled into a white-blonde shock and black blood smeared across her face. She delivers a powerful line: “The dead have got something to say, and I’m saying it.” Her character’s message is clear: “The corrupt are going to see life is here, and its coming to you from the monsters.”

Gyllenhaal found inspiration for her second film in an unexpected place. During a party, she noticed a man with a tattoo of The Bride of Frankenstein on his forearm, which sparked her interest. After struggling to find the right project, she returned to her hotel room and researched the original film featuring Elsa Lanchester.

Upon watching the movie, Gyllenhaal realized that the original Bride of Frankenstein was not central to the story, despite the title. However, she was captivated by the impact Elsa Lanchester made in just three minutes of screen time without speaking a word.

In "The Bride!", Buckley’s character has much more to say. The trailer shows her refusing to take Frankenstein’s name as she and the monster embark on a murderous spree. Gyllenhaal explains that while Frankenstein is a monster who commits terrible acts, he also possesses human qualities such as beauty, kindness, and loneliness. His request for a mate, as depicted in the book and mythology, is understandable. However, the film explores what happens if the mate returns with her own needs, agenda, and fears.

The film also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Penelope Cruz, adding to the star-studded cast. "The Bride!" will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on March 6.
