PETALUNG JAYA: Following the arrest of a male instructor in Alor Setar, Kedah, who is accused of sexually molesting female pupils at a private secondary school, both the headteacher and deputy headteacher from this institution have stepped down.

The Board of Governors of Sekolah Menengah Keat Hwa issued a statement on Facebook stating that Principal Chang Siew Hong has tendered her resignation owing to health issues. Additionally, Vice-Principal Khor Chee Beng’s departure from his role will take effect starting today.

“Starting May 1, 2025, Khor will resign from his position as vice-principal, with the decision contingent upon the conclusion of the investigation into the sexual harassment claims or until alternate plans are communicated,” stated the board.

The statement also mentioned that the Kedah United Chinese School Committees’ Association has set up a separate task force for investigating the issue.

On April 21, Board Secretary Ng Kok Weng stated that the concerned teacher had been placed on suspension and barred from accessing the school grounds to prevent additional upset among the affected students, pending the completion of the investigation.

The 34-year-old educator was arrested following two allegations of sexual misconduct, as mentioned by Bernama; these complaints were submitted by both a present pupil and an ex-pupil.

Ng mentioned that the teacher has been working at the school since 2016.
