Expanding Digital Access in Vietnam

Keppel has broadened its “Bytes for Future” initiative to include Dong Nai Province, providing digital learning resources to over 1,200 students. This expansion has increased the program’s total reach in Vietnam to more than 2,000 beneficiaries. The initiative, in partnership with Tien Phong newspaper, is now benefiting students at Nguyen Hue A High School and Thanh Binh Primary School in Binh Long Ward, Dong Nai Province.

The launch ceremonies took place on September 9 at both schools and were attended by key figures, including Tran Van Tuan, Vice President of the Binh Long Ward People’s Committee, and Lim Kay Siong, Head of Asset Operations Management, Vietnam, Real Estate, Keppel. These events marked an important step in supporting education in the region.

Addressing Resource Constraints

Nguyen Hue A High School and Thanh Binh Primary School have long struggled with limited resources, particularly a lack of modern computers essential for developing students’ digital skills. To address this, Keppel donated 60 computers and over 900 books, significantly enhancing students’ access to technology and learning materials. At Thanh Binh Primary School, Keppel also funded a new roof and upgraded the IT classroom, creating a better environment for teaching and learning.

Lim Kay Siong emphasized the importance of digital literacy for young people in today’s interconnected world. Through the “Bytes for Future” initiative, Keppel aims to empower students from underserved communities with the tools and environment they need to learn, grow, and unlock their potential.

“We are pleased to bring the program to Dong Nai Province and hope it will make a lasting impact by enriching learning experiences and opening doors to future opportunities for the students,” Lim said.

Support from Local Authorities

Tran Van Tuan, Vice President of the Binh Long Ward People’s Committee, acknowledged that while infrastructure for IT education has been developed, it still falls short of meeting the needs of schools in remote areas. He described the computers provided by the “Bytes for Future” program as a meaningful gift that will motivate schools to continue bringing information technology closer to students.

Bui Quoc Viet, Principal of Thanh Binh Primary School, highlighted the school’s location in a remote border area where IT education resources remain limited. He praised the practical support from Keppel and Tien Phong newspaper through the program.

Dao Nguyen Binh, Principal of Nguyen Hue A High School, added that the donations, including computers and books, have helped ease their challenges and created more favorable conditions for both teachers and students in teaching and learning, especially in accessing information technology—a field critical in the digital era.

A Growing Initiative

Launched in 2024, Keppel’s “Bytes for Future” initiative aims to equip the next generation with the tools and knowledge needed to thrive in a digital world. In its first year, the program supported more than 800 students in Tay Ninh Province through the donation of 80 computers, air conditioners, and books. With the expansion to Dong Nai Province, the initiative continues to make a significant impact on education in Vietnam.

This ongoing effort reflects Keppel’s commitment to fostering digital literacy and providing equal opportunities for students across different regions. By investing in technology and educational resources, the company is helping to bridge the digital divide and prepare young people for the challenges and opportunities of the modern world.
