Christmas has completely ended, and we’re experiencing the January blues.

It’s that time of the month when a lot of us are already experiencing burnout from striving to be our best selves (remember, slow and steady wins the race, guys).

Although a series of weather alerts have affected different areas of Ireland in recent weeks, and the weather has been mostly dull and gloomy to start the year, there are still many options available on our favorite streaming platforms to lift those spirits.

Over the weekend, several new series and films became available on Netflix, with additional content on the way, including the fourth season of Bridgerton, which is scheduled to arrive on the streaming platform at the end of the month.

For the time being, here’s a glimpse at some of Netflix’s top offerings to help you overcome that January slump!

RUN AWAY

The newest television adaptation from Harlan Coben features Simon Greene, played by James Nesbitt, whose daughter Paige disappears. As the worried father searches for his daughter, he discovers a series of surprising revelations about the hidden life she led.

Simon teams up with private investigator Elena Ravenscroft (Ruth Jones) in an effort to solve the mystery surrounding Paige’s disappearance.

Featuring eight episodes, this mini-series is an ideal choice for a quick watch and promises to keep you fully engaged.

HIS & HERS

Following the trend of thriller book adaptations, His & Hers is also getting excellent reviews since it was released on Netflix last week.

This six-episode program, adapted from theAlice Feeney’s book with the same title, witnesses separated spouses journalist Anna and detective Jack uniting to uncover the truth behind the murder of a woman in Anna’s hometown of Dahlonega.

Both Anna and Jack believe the other is responsible for the crime, as the series follows the couple in their pursuit of the real truth behind what occurred.

THE GOOD DOCTOR

If a brief mini-series isn’t quite what you’re after, The Good Doctor has recently become available on Netflix. With as many as 20 episodes per season and seven seasons altogether, it’s the perfect reason to stay indoors and escape the bleakness of January weather.

Premiering in 2017, the American medical series centers on the journey of Dr. Shaun Murphy, a young surgical resident who has autism.

Featuring former young actor Freddie Highmore, The Good Doctor continues to be among the Top 10 popular shows onNetflix, with the series experiencing a resurgence after being added to the streaming platform.

PEOPLE WE MEET DURING A VACATION (FILM)

From literary works adapted into television series, to books turned into films, another new addition to Netflix’s collection is “People We Meet on Vacation,” a movie based on the Emily Henry novel titled — as you might have guessed — “People We Meet on Vacation.”

Featuring Emily Bader and Tom Blyth, the two-hour movie has been dubbed the ‘When Harry Met Sally’ of the Netflix generation byThe Times.

Close friends Poppy and Alex go on a yearly summer getaway, having done so for ten years. That is, until one terrible vacation puts their tradition at risk.

Jump ahead to the current time, and the former best friends come together to address their problems and regain their former path.

THE LOST DAUGHTER (MOVIE)

Amid all the (well-deserved) buzzJessie Buckleyand Paul Mescal are receiving acclaim following their performances in Hamnet, why not check out their first film together?

The 2021 psychological drama marked Maggie Gyllenhaal’s first feature film as a director, and features Olivia Colman and Dakota Johnson along with our very own Irish actors.

Leda Caruso (Colman) is away on vacation when she encounters young mother Nina (Johnson), who has lost her child. Leda assists her in locating the child, which triggers memories of her own experiences as a young mother and the challenges she faced.
