The subject of Zack Snyder’s Justice Leagueand what might have been if he was permitted to carry on with his vision for the DCEU simply won’t fade away. Maybe this is due to Snyder consistently posting exclusive glimpses and additional content from his tenure leading the DC franchise on hisInstagram, ensuring that those who are still desperately clinging to the faintest glimmers of hope that he will return to finish his story have something to keep their flames alive.
In his most recent collection of photographs, including the shots of theJustice Leaguecast featuring Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Henry Cavill, and Ezra Miller, among others, Snyder posted two images of storyboards that had been “leaked” a few years back (only to be quickly taken down by Warner Bros.), showing potential scenes fromJustice League 2. Now, fans can finally view these pages of Snyder’s plans in a much clearer format directly from Snyder, including details on how he planned to brutally kill off Lex Luthor and unite the world for an epic final confrontation.
On the handwritten text found on the illustrated page, it states, “Back at the Batcave, Batman witnesses in terror as Darkseid gains complete control over Superman. Superman attacks Batman, and he barely manages to escape. Lex thinks he has triumphed, but suddenly confronts Superman. He looks at Lex with intense red eyes – and sets him ablaze. As Lex screams, the world turns red and …”
The page continues to depict a scene set half a decade later, where the world is under Darkseid’s control. Another page implies that the story will lead to a “Lord of the Rings– “concluding battle,” where the Justice League unites all their allies, including the inhabitants of Earth, who stand up to fight against Darkseid’s invasion.
The Snyder Universe Has Ended Regardless of Fan Approval
There have been very few films throughout history that have sparked such ongoing online fascination thatJustice League has been active for nearly ten years. Enthusiasts have consistently flooded X and other social media sites with demands to revive Snyder’s initial vision, dissolve James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, and bringJustice League 2 to screens.
It won’t be happening. Recently, the upcoming acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Netflix has sparked renewed optimism that this might be the trigger required to revive Snyder’s universe and bring back Cavill and others for more intense, gritty superhero stories as the director initially envisioned. Although Snyder has been deeply involved with Netflix, supplying them with films such as Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead, the old Justice League ever reuniting is a fan-fantasy that is set to stay just that.
In the meantime, it appears improbable that this will be the final appearance of Snyder on Instagram, and who knows, perhaps the rest of thoseJustice League 2 storyboards can still be found somewhere, and they would certainly make an excellent coffee table book.
