Netflix aims to revolutionize the production of action films as part of its ongoing effort to capture and maintain audience engagement, according to an actor from the “Bourne” series.Matt Damon.

In an interview featured on the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast, Damon and his long-time collaborator and friendBen Affleckdiscussed their most recent collaboration, starring in and co-producing their first Netflix-only heist movie, “The Rip,” which premiered on Friday. The two actors shared their thoughts on how streaming services and short-form video platforms have transformed the way films are viewed, created, and distributed to viewers.

Damon mentioned that Netflix is now requiring action movies to include more significant scenes within the first five minutes, and advising actors to repeat the storyline to accommodate viewers who are using their phones.

The performer mentioned the “typical method” he was taught to create anaction filmwas intended to have the climax – “the major one with all the explosions” that a film typically invests most of its budget into – take place in the third act.

Now, they’re saying, ‘Can we have a big moment in the first five minutes? We want viewers to keep watching. And you know, it wouldn’t be bad if you repeated the plot three or four times in the dialogue becauseindividuals are using their mobile deviceswhile they’re watching,” he said. “And then it’s going to begin to significantly affect the way we convey a narrative.

Damon did not clarify whether Netflix instructed the actor and producer for his most recent heist film.

A representative from Netflix did not provide a response to a query sent over the weekend.

Affleck mentioned that these suggestions are not evident in every new action film or series available on Netflix. The actor highlighted “Adolescence,” a crime miniseries featuring episodes filmed in a single, uninterrupted shot. The series was launched in March.

Damon mentioned that he believed the show was an exception.

“My impression is that it shows you don’t have to go through any of that,” Affleck said.

He later remarked, “It’s similar to supply and demand. People desire to check their phones, they watch TikTok, and they will continue doing so. I believe the approach is to create content as well as possible. Make it truly excellent.”
