“So I was portraying a South African rugby player, and that’s a very challenging accent to master,” Damon said, mentioning he “spent six months” collaborating with a dialect coach to perfect the accent of rugby player Francois Pienaar—the actual captain of South Africa’s national rugby team.

[The coach] would arrive from 9 to 5, Monday through Friday,” he stated. “It was a significant amount of work.

Desiring his effort to be evident in his performance, Damon came to the set expecting several attempts to perfect it, but was instead denied.
