Mina Starsiak Hawk Shares Excitement for New Season of ‘Rock the Block’
Mina Starsiak Hawk, a mother of two, is set to return to HGTV with the seventh season of Rock the Block. Her children, Jack, 7, and Charlie, 5, are eagerly awaiting the show’s premiere.
Mina, who previously starred on Good Bones for eight seasons, has been a familiar face on home renovation shows. She now joins Rock the Block, where four duos will transform identical properties in Las Vegas. The new season marks a shift as HGTV stars team up with celebrities who share a passion for design.
Mina’s son and daughter have been excited about her return to television. “They came out and visited and they got to see the house and the set and they very much missed like, ‘Mom, when are you going to build houses again on TV? The cameras aren’t around anymore. When are we going to do that again?’” she shared.

This season, Mina teams up with retired NFL player and actor Vernon Davis. The dynamic duo promises to bring plenty of energy and fun to the competition. Other teams include Scott McGillivray and Brooke Hogan, Taniya Nayak and Drew Lachey, and Kim Wolfe and Chelsea Meissner.
Mina described the cast as “such an eclectic group.” She was confident in working with Davis, noting his experience as an NFL player. “Knowing that he was a football player, knowing his position and when he played in the league, I was like, no matter what, he’s going to be a good teammate,” she recalled.
The show also brought some playful moments. “There was so much shenanigans because we all had so much fun with each other,” Mina said. She mentioned that Davis would often “physically move someone that he didn’t want where they were.” She added that Brooke Hogan, who is tall, “got a couple solid tackles of Vernon.”

Mina, who previously appeared as a judge on Rock the Block, faced a unique challenge this time as a competitor. “The biggest challenge was my tendency for ‘getting in my head,’” she explained. “Every decision I make, I also reflect on if I was a judge, this is what I would say about this.”
She noted that the mental pressure was constant. “So while it’s definitely I think a bit of an edge to have both perspectives, it also was just mental gymnastics all the time.”
Mina’s run on Good Bones concluded in October 2023. Following the show’s end, a three-episode spinoff titled Good Bones: New Beginnings premiered in August 2024. The series focused on Mina and her mother, Karen E. Laine, as they took on separate projects in different states.
With her children cheering her on and a new season of Rock the Block ahead, Mina is ready to embrace the challenges and excitement of the competition.
