The Holiday fans baffled as director reveals iconic scene in film was improvised

Featuring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and helmed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip follows the iconic actors as two TNT (Tactical Narcotics Team) officers in Miami commanding a unit investigating a stash house following an anonymous tip. When they uncover millions of dollars concealed in the attic, they must grapple with questions of loyalty as external threats start to converge, reports the Mirror.

Rounding out the ensemble alongside Affleck and Damon is a stellar supporting lineup, featuring Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Kyle Chandler and Sasha Calle. The Globe and Mail has dubbed the movie "thoroughly enjoyable" while drawing parallels to other acclaimed cop thrillers like Training Day, Cop Land, and Triple 9. The Hollywood Reporter echoed this sentiment, noting: "While [Carnahan’s] new film doesn’t reshape the mould, an ace cast led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and twisty plotting that bristles with paranoia and mistrust make it an entertaining watch."

Flickering Myth were even more enthusiastic, penning: "More than a gift to see Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited on screen, this is a genius stroke of casting for writer/director Joe Carnahan’s paranoia-laced crime thriller The Rip that, well, rips." IGN called The Rip’s last-minute twists "exhilarating", with the reviewer adding they were "on the edge of my seat" by its conclusion. Letterboxd users who have already seen the film also had high praise, with one fan saying: "Shockingly solid Netflix thriller. Damon and Affleck are always magic together."

"A gripping film with a great cast that tells an intense story," another fan wrote. "The Affleck/Damon duo delivers, and the clever twist isn’t exactly predictable. A good film." While a final user declared: "Highly recommend #TheRip this weekend on Netflix. Dirty Cops, Millions of Dollars, Affleck, Damon, and some massive shootouts. What more could you ask for? I wanted a thrilling time and I got it."

For fans of action-packed police thrillers, featuring gunfights, pursuit sequences and plot surprises that leave you second-guessing right through to the finale, selecting The Rip for your weekend entertainment is an obvious choice. The Rip is available to stream on Netflix.
