LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nikki Glaserpushed hard before softening in her monologue to open Sunday’sGolden Globes.

In her first jokes, she mentioned that the stars in the room could be part of the Epstein Files and made a comment about CBS, the network that broadcasts the show.

There are numerous A-list celebrities, and by that, I mean individuals on a list that has been significantly censored,” she said. “And the Golden Globe for best editing is awarded to the Justice Department.

She moved on to ridiculing the latest problems atCBS Newsand the termination of a crucial “60 Minutes” report concerning the Trump Administration’s transportation of immigrants to a detention facility in El Salvador.

The prize for the most editing belongs to CBS News,” she stated. “Yes, CBS News: the new place in America to watch BS news.

She didn’t bring up Venezuela, a topic she shared with The Associated Press this week that she was thinking about bringing up, but feared it would already be outdated in the fast-paced situation. And there was no reference to ICE.

Glaser also mentioned to the AP that she was having difficulty coming up with a joke aboutJulia Roberts, stating that she was so cherished and admired that nothing Glaser attempted with her comedy club test audiences was effective.

She discovered a method to approach it from an angle.

“Just as the podcasters recognized tonight, I shouldn’t be this near to Julia Roberts,” she remarked, and received the large laugh she was aiming for.

This was Glaser’s second time serving as host. She was promptly brought back following positive feedback from her initial appearance last year. Her first invitation came after the harsh roast she delivered to the attendees during the Netflix roast of Tom Brady. Although she has been more gentle at the Globes, her jokes still carried a sharp edge.

She made the expected joke regarding Leonardo DiCaprio’s relationships with younger women.

You’ve collaborated with every top director. You’ve received three Golden Globe awards and an Oscar,” she said. “And the most remarkable part is that you managed to achieve all of this before your girlfriend turned 30.

She then took a meta approach and apologized for being so transparent.

“Leo, I’m sorry I made that joke, it was cheap. You know what, I tried not to, but, we don’t really know anything else about you, man. Like, there’s nothing else, so why don’t you open up!” she said, receiving a bigger laugh than her first joke, particularly from DiCaprio.

Regarding DiCaprio’s fellow nominee for “One Battle After Another,” Sean Penn, she remarked, “Everyone in this industry is fixated on appearing younger. Meanwhile, Sean Penn is like, what if I gradually transform into a stylish leather purse?”

She concentrated on the slim build ofTimothée ChalametIn her unavoidable joke regarding the nominee for “Marty Supreme,” she referred to him as “the first actor in history who had to build muscle for a film about ping pong.” This is accurate. He added more than 60 ounces.

She referred to the sequel as “Wicked: For Good” and “Wicked: For Money,” becoming more financially focused as the monologue continued to broaden her audience.

She appeared to draw half the room into her ultimate big joke.

Guillermo del Toro, continue creating unusual monster-themed romantic films,” she said. “James Cameron — keep producing strange monster-sex films. Emma Stone and Yorgos Lanthimos, keep crafting uniquely odd movies as a team and push further. I want Emma Stone portraying a piece of toast that has epilepsy.

It continued endlessly, featuring lines such as “Paul Mescal and Jacob Elordi, keep being the same person to my mom, okay?”
