The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!

Paramount Plus has been the focus of much attention for its original series such as Dexter, Landman, and MobLand. However, this streaming service also houses a vast library of movies, both recent and classic. This month, Paramount Plus will be adding 130 new films to its collection. Here are seven standout titles that are worth watching:

Baby Driver (2017)

What Kind of Movie: Action/Drama
Who’s In It: Ansel Elgort, Jon Hamm, Kevin Spacey

If you’re looking for an adrenaline-pumping film, Baby Driver features Ansel Elgort as a mentally challenged getaway driver for a crime crew filled with exceptional supporting actors like Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, and Eiza Gonzalez. Their heist plan goes awry, leaving Elgort’s character at odds with the group and searching for a way out. Directed by Edgar Wright, Baby Driver is an inventive and action-packed crime drama with some outstanding performances. The film showcases great filmmaking and highlights how much we miss Kevin Spacey in roles like this.

Zodiac (2007)

What Kind of Movie: Drama
Who’s In It: Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr.

Directed by David Fincher, this thriller about the infamous serial killer in the 1970s Bay Area stars Jake Gyllenhaal as a San Francisco newspaper cartoonist obsessed with the case. Fincher captures how one man’s obsession can consume him while also showing the impact one criminal can have on an entire city. The film features excellent performances from Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey Jr., along with Mark Ruffalo as the lead cop.

Blue Chips (1994)

What Kind of Movie: Sports Drama
Who’s In It: Nick Nolte, Shaquille O’Neal, Penny Hardaway

Blue Chips offers a gritty look at the dark side of college basketball recruiting. Nick Nolte plays a college coach facing ethical dilemmas, exposing the pressures coaches and players face in their pursuit of success. The film uses real-life NBA players like Shaquille O’Neal and Penny Hardaway in key roles, enhancing its realism. Former Boston Celtics player Bob Cousy appears as the college’s athletic director.

Election (1999)

What Kind of Movie: Satire, Comedy
Who’s In It: Matthew Broderick, Reese Witherspoon

This satire directed by Alexander Payne follows a corrupt high school election. Matthew Broderick stars as an overqualified teacher outwitted by an overachieving student played by Reese Witherspoon. Broderick delivers his best performance since Ferris Bueller, making Election a funny and insightful film from an underrated director.

Zero Dark Thirty (2012)

What Kind of Movie: Drama
Who’s In It: Jessica Chastain, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, James Gandolfini

Kathryn Bigelow’s intense 2012 drama stars Jessica Chastain as a relentless CIA agent hunting for the masterminds behind the 9/11 attacks. The film sparked debate about its portrayal of extralegal tactics but accurately depicts the pain and zeal felt by intelligence and military personnel. Chastain delivers a compelling performance, supported by strong contributions from James Gandolfini, Chris Pratt, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, and Joel Edgerton.

Serpico (1973)

What Kind of Movie: Urban Drama
