A Sweet Moment Between Paul Thomas Anderson and Maya Rudolph at the 2026 Golden Globes

Paul Thomas Anderson and Maya Rudolph have been sharing some heartwarming moments on the red carpet at the 2026 Golden Globes. The longtime couple, who have been together for over 25 years, made fans swoon as they shared a sweet kiss when Paul accepted the award for Best Screenplay, Motion Picture for One Battle After Another at the Beverly Hilton on January 11. They repeated the gesture when he was announced as the winner of Best Director.

When Paul’s name was first called for Best Screenplay by Macaulay Culkin, the 55-year-old turned to his partner, Maya, and the two shared a rare and tender moment. Later, when Judd Apatow announced him as the evening’s Best Director, Maya stood up to plant another kiss on Paul. Their love and connection were clearly on display throughout the night.

Although Paul didn’t specifically mention Maya during his acceptance speeches, he did express gratitude to his cast, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, and Regina Hall. He reflected on the importance of the collaboration between writers and actors in bringing a script to life. “The moment when it gets out of your room and off a page and actors start saying it,” he told the crowd, “that’s when it gets great.”

A Chaotic but Happy Family Life

Paul and Maya’s relationship has not only been romantic but also filled with joy and laughter, especially as they raise their four children: Pearl, 20; Lucille, 16; Jack, 14; and Minnie, 12. When asked about their family life, Paul humorously compared it to the von Trapp family from The Sound of Music. “It’s pretty Von Trapp,” he joked with the LA Times in 2018. “I don’t know that movie that well. But there’s a scene in You Can’t Take It with You where a woman enters and there’s 50 different family members all banging away on different things in different parts of the house. It’s a little like that. This one’s banging on the piano. This one’s banging on the drum. This one’s singing. It’s very chaotic.”

Despite the chaos, the Inherent Vice director has always felt a deep connection to Maya. The Saturday Night Live alum shared how they met, recounting that Paul once told her he saw her in a sketch and said, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” Maya, however, was skeptical. “But I don’t know. I wasn’t there. Maybe he just told me that to be sweet,” she said in an interview with Town & Country in 2024.

A Love That Began with a Single Moment

Paul explained that he knew Maya was special after seeing her name on a piece of paper. “I don’t know if you’ve had any feeling like this,” he said on SmartLess in 2022, “but you see something for the first time and you realize that my life has just changed. I don’t know how, I don’t know why.”

He continued, “Looking back, obviously that kind of impulse, that shining kind of feeling that can happen to any of us if we’re open to it, happened. So, I roamed around and then I saw her on television and I saw what she was doing. And I stayed in touch with a few people from the show and I was like, ‘My God, this woman’s amazing.’”
