The 2010s: A Decade of Live-Action Remakes

Looking at the list of Disney movies from the 2010s, one thing stands out: this was the decade of live-action remakes. It all began with the live-action Alice in Wonderland in 2010. This film set a high bar, showcasing what could be achieved with the right imagination, cast, and creative vision. It offered a fresh take on a story that many already knew.

Following this success, Disney continued with live-action reboots. The Jungle Book came out in 2016, and while it turns 10 in 2026, we’re still trying to figure out how that happened. The Alice in Wonderland sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass, also released in the same year, just six weeks later, continuing the story of Alice and the world she once believed was just a dream.

A year later, it was Belle’s turn for a remake. Beauty and the Beast came out in March 2017, and although it received mixed reviews, it didn’t disappoint. Aladdin, The Lion King, and Lady and the Tramp followed with live-action remakes in 2019. These new versions brought some new songs and twists to the storylines, keeping us on our toes, especially when it came to the dog storyline in Lady and the Tramp!

New Disney Princesses of the 2010s

The 2010s also introduced some excellent new Disney princesses who made the decade special. Frozen started it all, bringing us a tale of two Disney princesses—one of whom would become a queen. It focused on sisters as true love, rather than the love of a man. Brave, Tangled, and Moana continued the trend of giving us very different Disney princesses to root for. And now, we’re getting ready for live-action versions of those movies, including Moana later in 2026.
