JERTIH – Educators and pensioners who post personal stories like their retirement strategies or experiences of solitude on social networking sites are becoming more vulnerable to cyber fraudsters.
The Terengganu Deputy Education Director Kamal Mohamed mentioned that these job postings frequently lure scammers who use methods including romance scams, fraudulent investment proposals, and phony lending schemes to take advantage of their targets.
He stated that many of the affected individuals include teachers and pensioners. Between January 2023 and April of this year, authorities documented 609 instances of online fraud in Terengganu, resulting in an overall loss of RM13.5 million.
He spoke at an online fraud awareness event conducted today at SMK Tengku Mahmud here, organized by the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC).
In Besut alone, 18 fraud cases were documented for last year, amounting to a total loss of RM457,438. Up until now this year, an additional eight instances have been reported, resulting in losses of RM107,157.
“A number of these victims were educators,” he mentioned additionally.
He voiced his optimism that such awareness programs could assist educators in staying alert and prevent them from becoming victims of internet frauds. – BERNAMA
