Spider-Man’s Return in Avengers: Doomsday Seems Certain

Spider-Man’s Potential Return to Avengers: Doomsday

Spider-Man is not officially confirmed for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, but a recent comment from one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) stars has reignited hopes that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker might still make an appearance in the film. Regardless of whether the movie includes the Avengers, Holland is set for a big year in 2026, as he leads the star-studded cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

This new project is the next release on the MCU’s slate, arriving just months before Avengers: Doomsday. In theory, the MCU Spider-Man movie could serve as a setup for Peter’s arc in the new Avengers film. However, when the cast for Avengers: Doomsday was announced, no version of Spider-Man was confirmed for the film. Fortunately, a recent update has raised hopes that Holland might not be missing from the movie after all.

Tom Hiddleston’s Comment Could Signal a Big Role

During an interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Loki star Tom Hiddleston was asked about his favorite version of Spider-Man. He revealed it was Tom Holland’s, stating, “For reasons I cannot disclose, Tom Holland.” All three live-action versions of Spider-Man have appeared in the MCU, thanks to No Way Home uniting them.

Hiddleston’s comment could be a subtle hint that Holland’s Spider-Man is indeed part of Avengers: Doomsday. After all, Loki is confirmed to appear in the next Avengers movie, with the MCU’s God of Stories seemingly being part of Captain America’s new Avengers team alongside Thor and other heroes.

Hiddleston’s cryptic remark might also relate to having filmed scenes with Holland, but not being allowed to reveal that. As the protector of the multiverse, Loki should be the biggest line of defense against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom if the villain is trying to take control of the multiverse. Given his experience with the multiverse and connection to Iron Man, who shares a face with Victor von Doom, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could find himself face-to-face with Loki.

How Tom Holland Could Join Avengers: Doomsday

The fact that Holland was not announced as part of Avengers: Doomsday’s cast during Marvel’s live-stream event early in 2025 means nothing about his chances of showing up in the film. The first teaser for the MCU’s next Avengers movie showed that by revealing that Chris Evans would be back as Steve Rogers despite the actor not being announced and even having denied his return.

Holland could have already filmed scenes as Spider-Man for Avengers: Doomsday. If that did not happen due to Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s production, which ran parallel to the Avengers movie, Holland could film his scenes as Peter Parker, perhaps with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki present, during Avengers: Doomsday’s reshoots later this year. Either way, Spider-Man could still appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
