Nearly ten years following the final trilogy,Star Wars‘ the next one will officially restart the franchise. Regarding major live-action projects,Star Wars‘ many TV showshave been prioritized since 2019. The examples includeThe Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor have been common recently, but severalupcoming Star Wars movieswill return the franchise to the silver screen.

The first of these is thestory of The Mandalorian and Grogu, a spin-off from one of the previously mentioned TV series. This movie will initiate a new wave of films from a distant galaxy, several of which have recently been talked about by Kathleen Kennedy. Recently, news emerged thatKathleen Kennedy is exiting Star Wars as Lucasfilm’s president.

Kennedy is handing over the responsibility to Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan, as disclosed following the announcement of her retirement. The magnitude of this news prompted many to contact Kennedy, prompting her to respond to numerous messages.Star Warsfilms currently being developed. Thanks to her update onStar Wars‘next trilogy, it is evident that the three movies will properly revive the franchise.

Simon Kinberg Is Crafting A New Star Wars Trilogy

Although several individual Star WarsMovies have been recently announced, with the most notable being the confirmation.of a new trilogy. It was disclosed thatSimon Kinberg will draft aStar Wars trilogyafter collaborating closely with Dave Filoni onStar Wars Rebels. That being said, information regarding the project has been scarce since 2024.

As a result, Kennedy was questioned about the status of the trilogy following her announcement of leaving Lucasfilm. Kennedy responded that Kinberg is still working on the films along with other members at Lucasfilm.“upended the story.”Kennedy stated that she last read something by Kinberg in August and mentioned that he has recently provided a detailed outline.

Furthermore, Kinberg will submit something to Lucasfilm in March. Regarding the project, Kennedy mentioned that the treatment submitted in August wasvery good, but not quite there. This clarifies the work Kinberg has produced since that time, along with the new approach set to arrive in March.

Kinberg’s Star Wars Initiative Is The Most Promising Candidate For Episode X

What makes Kinberg’s Star Warsthe trilogy is more intriguing because the three movies represent the closest we have to Episodes X, XI, and XII. these particular names have never been officially used by Lucasfilm, but the initial announcement suggested that the three films would essentially be this.

The movies are evidently set to be the genuine next part of the larger narrativeStar Wars franchise after The Rise of Skywalker. To further support this, it is the sole theatrical project revealed as a trilogy, in contrast to independent films likeThe Mandalorian and Grogu or Star Wars: Starfighter.

These films are intended to be standalone stories in theStar Warscosmos, as are the likes of Daisy Ridley’s Rey film and James Mangold’sDawn of the Jedistory. It seems that Kinberg’s trilogy will mark the next chapter of theStar Warsfranchise, similar to the original, prequel, and sequel trilogies.

Star Wars Has Been Missing a Coherent Direction Since Episode IX

For the most part, this represents an exhilarating advancement forStar WarsThe primary reason for this is that the trilogy will feature a clear, cohesive vision. This has not been the case in theStar Warsfranchise since Episode IX came out in 2019. Even so, that film has faced criticism for moving away from what was established inThe Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

This made the sequel trilogy as a whole seem disorganized. Since then, Lucasfilm has concentrated on mostly independent projects on television, which have each had a cohesive vision, but have left the overall franchise feeling fragmented. Hopefully, Kinberg’s trilogy will restore that sense of a clear and unique narrative direction.

Of course, this doesn’t mean the trilogy can’t exist alongside individual stories. However, it would be pleasant to have a continuous storyline written by the same director for the first time since the prequel series. For this reason, as well as the ones previously mentioned, it genuinely seems like this trilogy will reboot the franchise.Star Wars franchise.

What Simon Kinberg’s Star Wars Trilogy Signifies For the Remaining Films

Regarding what this implies for the othersStar Warsfilms in development, it is expected to remain largely unchanged. As hinted, Kinberg’s trilogy appears to be the beginning of a new chapter inStar Warsfilms, probably extending the franchise past Episode IX. For narratives likeThe Mandalorian and Grogu, Starfighter, and Dawn of the Jedi, they probably won’t relate to the trilogy at all.

The same applies to Dave Filoni’s intended film set inStar Wars‘ New Republic timeline. If anything, this film will resonate withThe Mandalorian and Grogu, but likely nothing else. The only film that might be affected by Kinberg’s trilogy is Rey’s New Jedi Order narrative.

If, in fact, Kinberg’s story continues the Skywalker Saga as Episode X, it’s reasonable to anticipate that characters from the sequel trilogy will be included. Therefore, Rey is a strong possibility. This should not affect her standalone film, which is still in development by Charmeen Obaid-Chinoy, but it would mean this project needs to link toStar Warsnew trilogy and the franchise’s thrilling revival.
