After winning Best Supporting Actorin a Film for his portrayal inSentimental Value at the 2026 Golden Globes on Jan. 11, Stellan Skarsgårdanswered a question regarding whether Donna can be brought back to life.
“She can be resurrected from the dead — everyone can be brought back to life in films — and in films, she’s amazing,” Skarsgård, 74, said to members of the press in the ceremony’s press room.
In 2018’s prequel-sequel Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the sequel to the 2008 film, Donna passes away behind the scenes due to an unknown disease.
Skarsgård portrayed one of Donna’s past lovers, Bill, in both movies.
“A lot of people involved in live streaming movie films online are working on it to bring her back,” Skarsgård said about Streep, 76, and her cherished character at the Golden Globes.
A script for Mamma Mia 3has been finished, and the film is still in development, as stated by producer Judy Craymer. “We are clear on our vision for the movie, and it will come to fruition,” Craymer said.Deadline in May while discussing Sabrina Carpenter potentially joining the cast.
Nevertheless, a possible third film in the series has not received official approval, and there have been no cast announcements so far.
Streep, on the other hand, is keen on making a comeback in some way.
In Vogue’s “Oral History of Mamma Mia!Published in 2023,” the actress stated, “if there’s a concept that interests me, I’m fully on board.
I’m open to anything,” the three-time Oscar winner added. “I told Judy that if she could find a way to bring Donna back, I’m all in.
