President
Donald Trump
After refusing to answer the reporter’s call, pocket accidentally dialed them at 1:28 am, and he later jokingly said it was
‘another Signal thing.’
Trump was simultaneously approached by two political journalists from The Atlantic as his top officials inadvertently
included the magazine’s editor-in-chief in an important Signal conversation about war strategies in Yemen
.
Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer were collaborating on an article regarding
Biden’s Initial 100 Days in Office
and his return to prominence
White House
.
However, getting access to Trump turned out to be challenging. Whenever they tried reaching him, he would avoid their calls and outright reject their requests for interviews. It was only after they obtained his personal cell phone number that things became slightly easier.
"Don’t inquire about how we obtained his contact information," they ultimately penned.
After they had previously called that number and engaged in an extensive conversation with Trump, they managed another discussion before the Jeffrey Goldberg scandal came to light on March 24.
Next, they encountered silence once more. This continued up until Scherer’s phone beeped at 1:28 AM on April 12th.
‘Did he call to inquire whether we witnessed the spectacle—this show of deference from these gladiators, as well as from his camp?’ they penned in their concluding article.
‘Was it simply a case of a mistaken call made late at night? His team chose not to provide further explanation.’
In the end, the pair and Goldberg were asked to visit the Oval Office on April 24 for a concluding discussion with Trump.
Scherer took the chance to unravel the mystery and asked, ‘Were you intending to ring me around 1:30 AM following the UFC match?’
Trump was puzzled by the query, as Scherer noted, and seemed oblivious to having made such a statement.
"Oh, no, that seems like another Signal issue," Trump replied.
The playful allusion to the Signal controversy provides
an understanding of Trump’s private reaction to the saga.
He publicly backed his senior administration officials – Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz – but was reportedly privately seething about the embarrassing mishap.
Ultimately,
Three employees were eventually let go from their positions.
due to the occurrence.
Although Parker and Scherer succeeded in securing valuable interview opportunities with the President, it was nearly not the case, as Trump took to TruthSocial in March to dismissed the pair.
"Ashley Parker cannot conduct a fair and impartial interview. She is a Radical Left Lunatic who has consistently performed terribly since I first became acquainted with her," Trump stated on March 17.
‘Michael Scherer has consistently produced unfair stories about me, focusing solely on negativity and nearly always resorting to falsehoods.’
The reason for Trump changing his stance remains uncertain, however they believe obtaining his personal cell phone number might have been a contributing factor.
‘The only thing we can state is that the White House team has incomplete oversight of Trump’s individual communication gadgets,’ they penned.
During the interview, Trump apparently shared with them what he perceives as the primary distinction for himself this time.
"The initial time around, I was faced with two tasks—to lead the nation and stay alive; I had all these dishonest fellows," he stated.
And for the second time, I lead the nation and the globe.
